This may not go down well, but my prediction is that hybrid and all-electric cars are the future. Even sports cars. Especially sports cars (witness Porsche 918 and La Ferrari).

Perhaps the C9 will be electric.

Yes 100% torque off idle is great, but how would you even begin to troubleshoot the thing when it breaks ? Will AAA come drop off 100 D cells to get you home when you run out ? The funniest thing about these cars is their owners. There is one running around by me with the plate "CO2FREE". Yeah, the electric just magically appears out of the socket in your house.

The time slips at the end of the video tell the real story - Lousy reaction time by the Vette driver. The Vette is ~3 tenths quicker in the 1/4 and would eat the Tesla in a 1/2 to 1 mile sprint. Even the 60' is better on the Vette. So much for 100% torque off the line. If it has been an A6 (or better yet, the new A8), with a driver that could cut a good light, the story would be a lot different.
Better yet, do what most of us would do and, say, put an ECS kit on the Vette and some drag radials (that'll still be a whole less invested than in a $100K Tesla), and see how that goes. Wonder what the Tesla guy would do to answer that? Bigger batteries maybe??
I hope they arrange a rematch with the new C7 Z06 when that comes out. Preferably with the A8 trans. All indications are that will still be cheaper than the Tesla. Let's see how that works out.

No thanks.
they working on a new inductive charging system which will recharge as you drive in a selected lane of US interstates.. pretty insane to think you may NEVER have to stop.. the C8 if not then definitely the C9 will have some form of electric motor

and yes, they're legit friend's went 12.0 @114 iirc at englishtown this summer.. said it has more in it lol

I drove a Tesla S.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Vette and the sound but the Tesla are really the cars of the futur. Instant torque, super fast and easy on the environement. Imagine not having to put gas anymore ? Tesla S are still expensive (80k) but I will buy the next middle range model, the model III which will be around 40k new.

Until electric charging stations are as common as gas stations the future isn't that bright for electric only cars.
A Chevy Volt starts at $32k and won't leave you stranded you can't find an electric charging station.

If you are in the US and live in a good spot, you might have no problem at all with superchargers, takes 20-30mins to get a full charge and youre good again.

Be glad to run one at the strip as long as they will do a 30 minute session on a road course.

Being here in Sparks, we're hearing lot about them now.
Wait until they get the newer better and much lighter battery in them. Every racer will get nervous then. Still keeping my Corvette's though.

My neighbor has the upper end Tesla S. It's a super nice ride with mind blowing technology everywhere. It doesn't hurt that I bought a couple hundred shares of Tesla stock back when it was about $29 a share in 2011, It's at $280 today, so every time I see a Tesla i can't help but smile.

Thought I heard somewhere that they expect it to hit $400 a share...

Yea, not bad for a co that was taxpayer funded for the first 7 years of development. What is impressive is that tesla actually PAID BACK the loan 9 years early. You made a very wise investment.

My neighbor has a Tesla S. I think it is pretty cool. As much as we old school gear heads hate to image or believe, gas engines will slowly be be replaced by electric. Yes, and even in sports cars.

Oh, and lastly, the ZR1 still rules the neighborhood.

Most likely truth, and the S model is cool but what the heck are they gonna do w/ all those spent batteries?+ Maybe they can record a top fuel dragster and have it play in time w/ the tesla as it accelerates. Poor Nikola Tesla,T.E screwed him good. Maybe one day driving will be like the Rush song "Red Barchetta" forgive if spelling is incorrect or info is not entireley accurate, just going off the top of my head.
