Default Tesla?

I pulled up behind a Tesla yesterday, wasn't paying any particular attention to it. Saw the driver peeping at me in his mirror, I thought he was admiring the Vette, you know how we get that all the time. The light changed, mind you I was still behind him, and this guy took off like a rocket!! I said to myself, dang! That sedan is fast!! Guy even had his wife and kids in the car. Ran a Google search on Tesla, dang thing is electric powered!!! Who knew?? Glad I didn't race him, he might have spanked me!!

they are pretty fast.

the kicker is not only being fast, but having a ton of low end torque available and being VERY easy to drive fast consistently. the average Tesla S driver is going to spank the average corvette driver. a good corvette driver will edge em out though. bearing in mind beyond the quarter mile the tesla S is very close to it's maximum speed limit, on a longer run the vette would keep pulling and pulling!

The Tesla S85 is 5.4 sec 0-60

Tesla P85 is around 3.9-4.2 sec 0-60 and is the model featured in the drag race video I posted

They might be good on the drag strip, but its a different story on the road course. A guy had one on Sonoma Raceway at an HPDE. He could only run 1/2 of a session because the car would overheat.

I'd take the vette any day...

There is no sound in a Tesla when you nail it, just a sort of humming noise, like an electric train or an electric bus makes. No thanks!

When I (or anyone else who owns a Corvette) nail it I want to hear that V8 roar to life, within reason, of course ;-)

I hear ya. Hard to believe there's anyone left on the planet who hasn't heard about Tesla, and it's electric design.

However, we must take into consideration that some folks have a life outside of cars.

I guess I'm a reactionary.
I don't care if the day comes that a Duracell powered 4,300 lb. car, smokes a 3,300 lb 750 hp 'vette, all day long.
I'll still buy the internal combustion engine.

All one needs to do, is listen to Don Garlits' electric dragster, kinda make a whining, whooshing sound out of the hole, to realize the sound of power is gone. It's an feeling of, well,....no excitement.

100% torque from the second you press the pedal; in terms of stoplight to stoplight you can't beat that!

Time slips shown at the end of the video. Vette had lower ET and higher trap speed by about 3 tenths and 8 mph in both match-ups. Still pretty impressive performance out of the Tesla, although I note the P85 model used in the video is a $94K+ car.

Thanks. Missed the timeslips - yeah, you can lose to a kid on a bicycle if you snooze too long out of the hole.

I had heard of Tesla, knew it was electric powered. What I didn't know was that it would dang near blow the doors off a Vette! I thought I owned the road! Or most of it!

Like I told the guy with his Cobra replica--let's race to Vegas. He shut up real quick.

You still do....there are lots of cars that can smoke a 'vette.

My friend's GT-R comes to mind.

But, I couldn't care less.

Every time I flop into my GS, strap on the seat belt, and listen to the LS3 crank and start, I feel like I just put on a Superman suit.

One of the cars will run out of extension cord
And the other will still sound strong.
Whine over growl that will be the day
No thanks.
