OK I see something was scratched off, AND that alone might bother me for awhile anyway. Just knowing it is there is enough....

Not trying to be difficult here it is just that I keep hearing this comment and wondered about authenticity of it.

I do have a horse in this race with some well placed stone chips on my 08 windshield.

Glass with the GM label still on (not polished out)

Gm glass with the label polished off, hence out of the same factory as the above glass, but being sold as aftermarket since the GM label is removed and not considered a GM OEM part for them to make money on since it bears there brand.

Also to point out, "Safelite Glass Corp. to Manufacture AP Technoglass Windshields", which allows Safelite to manufacture, distribute and sell replacement windshields under the AP Technoglass brand, hence in this cause, polish out the GM sticker on OEM produced glass before its sent to GM, and sell it under there own brand name less expensive instead.

Don't know if you're near Ross Downing Chev. in Hammond, but they are both a vendor here and a fairly large Corvette dealer (which sometimes means they have at least some qualified Corvette technicians). Good luck with it.

Just looked it up; long distance away from you. Sorry about that.
You should have comprehensive insurance. Hopefully, you went with the low deductible since low deductible comp doesn't cost much. The insurance will cover the repair and it isn't counted as an accident so won't ruin a safe driving record or raise your rates. Unless you have some ridiculous high deductible you want the insurance to cover the repair. They can recommend a good shop and ensure you get a quality repair. When the windshield in my 03Z broke State Farm paid for a shop that I chose to replace the windshield. When that turned into a fiasco they had me go to another shop, got their money back from the first shop and paid for the second repair. You can't swing as much weight as an insurance company so you want a heavy weight on your side. Vette windshields are not as straight forward to replace as some installers believe and don't believe somebody who says he replaces a lot of them since there aren't a lot of cars and only a small percentage need their windshields replaced.

You paid for the insurance and you should use it.

Well I must admit this thread has been a eye opener for myself.

Thanks for all the good information!

Safelite has my full attention now.

Safelite replaced my 2011 ZR1 glass when it was only 5 months old. I can still make out the GM emblem where it was erased/polished out. Safelite will also ask whether or not you have the "satellite" option. That means "OnStar" option which requires the windshield to have the OnStar module steel mounting bracket already attached to the inside upper right of the windshield. Safelite did a great job with their mobile service underneath my home carport.

This will ab another factor. I have Onstar but do not subscribe and do not plan to in the future.

Do I consider resale convenience?

Chances are by the time I sell it will need another windshield anyway, right.

Bill is right Lisa. It only takes a few minutes to call your insurance company, and it could safe you a ton of money. I have no deductible comprehensive on all of my vehicles. In fact, State Farm is paying for a new windshield for my truck as we speak.

Jim I have comp with no deductible so money isn't the issue. I live in a town about spit big and we aren't know for having the greatest of anything here. I just hate the idea of getting someone to come do it and they show up not knowing a vette from a focus and not sure what they are doing. I know Safelite is a good company but you can only hire from the gene pool that applies sorry folks but I have run into way to many who dos around here. Just have to suck it up and do it

There is no price increase once you need a Hud windshield for on star as well. so if you have on star now (even not using it), then get a new windshield with the on star mounting plant; since it will be the same price anyways as just the hud windshield.

I understand completely Lisa. My town has grown, but we are still limited when it comes to Corvette repairs. Good luck.

Safelite did a HORRIBLE job on my GS. Mine doesn't have HUD, replacement windshield wasn't AP Technoglass like the stock unit was. The trim around the windshield was all messed up. I was able to adjust the driver side some (they didn't reattach everything) to close the gaps but there is still a big gap between the cowl cover, windshield and side piece on that side. Top trim was wavy and uneven, I was able to correct that to some degree. They couldn't do any better and could only clean the excess glue off. Passenger A-pillar was damaged and the trim piece kept popping up. They tried to fix/glue it causing a 1/8 gap between the trim and glass.

3 times and they're out. #1 was only to have the windshield repaired, the guy took a 1/4 inch chip out and then filled it with resin - not acceptable as this was 1000x worse than the original peck and the resin was already separating from the glass by the time I got home and call the insurance. #2 they replacement the windshield with the above issues #3 they attempted to fix the issues only didn't. Now I'm going to another shop that I've had experience with and paying out of pocket to replace all of the trim with new OE and hoping the windshield itself is in spec and not a source of the problems.

I guess the install is a good as the tech's experience.

I will ask and demand a qualified tech with experience on the C6.

I'm very appreciative of the specialty insurance and din't want to "rock the boat " lol.. i wish i knew that!! thanks.

PS. if this is in fact not true is there a way to be reimbursed if i produced the receipt?

They could have had me in as early as today according to the schedule, but I pulled Monday due to work. They do work on Saturdays and had openings as well but I had other commitments.

I'm thinking I'll get there and they won't have the glass in stock though because I did it all through my insurance.

Definitely wait until you hear from me so that I can give the rundown on the place

From what most people have said they come to you. I was told to mKe sure they know to have a new gasket to replace the old one. My insurance co. told me to call and Just give them my policy # and to go ahead and get OEM one.
Let me know how yours goes. It might be worth me making the drive down. Heck I have to go to Hammond when I need service and seen my windshield damage happened in Baton Rouge it might be fitting that I get it replaced down there

I did all my reservations online so I didn't have any of those options but I'm trusting that they will know what they have to do, and if they don't do it right I'll let them know .

I chose to do it at their office so that the tech will be comfortable in the work environment and have all the tools he could possibly need in case there was a problem. I'll definitely update on Monday afternoon good or bad.

What is this Gasket you are referring to? I watched them do mine BOTH times and I didn't see anything resembling a gasket.

They use a special glue, all the way around the glass that bonds to the frame. That both holds the glass in and is the weatherproofing for the glass.
