I have tried do g a search because I am sure I have seen something on this before but nothing came up.
I am going to have to get my windshield replaced I was traveling last week and something blew off a tanker truck and hit my windshield on the driver side. As hard as it hit I thought it would have broke but it didn't. It has deep scratches, almost would say cuts, in the glass from the top of the windshield to the bottom. Every where I have called says scratches can't be fixed. Totally sucks IMO and I hate the idea of having it replaced. I do have HUD in my car and I see where my OEM windshield says it's tinted for that. Any suggests on the best route to go when having to do this? I am in Louisiana, swamp country.
Anyone that was had to do this I would appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Thanks people in advance

HI! I have not had to replace the glass on my Vette...BUTTTT... have had to replace windshields on a brand new Benz and a brand new Ford Fusion..... in both cases the replacement was perfect ( don't watch the process ) but the guys at Safelite do a fantastic job and its not as complicated as it may seem...... I assume insurance will cover? In any case, its a scary thought on a valued car...BUTTT...will come out good as new!!!
No, I haven't done the replacement, Lisa, but I've been reading about it for years. The C6 with HUD has a slightly different windshield from on-HUD cars. It typically costs more (no surprise ). I can't speak to any indie shop, but I know GM carries these windshields and they are probably a premium glass and cost. Don't know if you're near Ross Downing Chev. in Hammond, but they are both a vendor here and a fairly large Corvette dealer (which sometimes means they have at least some qualified Corvette technicians). Good luck with it.
Just looked it up; long distance away from you. Sorry about that.
had my windshield replaced a few month ago by safelite due to a crack that came from who-knows-what, progressive ok'd oem windshield. hud + on-star, oem windshield was about $500 or so more than the generic which most likely is the same w/o the gm logo.
I had it done at a safelite location 20 minutes away, that was their preference, fine with me.
glad its been done, over time there were plenty little sandblast nicks, now I can see clearly again
I did read some threads on Safelite that they are really good for Vettes. From what has been reported, the glass is the same as GM except without the logo. Good luck!
From: "No matter where you go... there you are"...."You cannot drive a dollar bill". ...and remember... "D
Safelite is excellent and just tell them you have HUD...Fortunately here in Arizona due to State Insurance mandates the replacement is covered by our Insurances and 0 deductible..course one does;t want to abuse this...

Bill they are a good ways from me but they are the ones I go to when I had my pan gasket replaced. They have an awesome tech named Randy. I don't use our local dealer for anything. Too many bad stories of abuse of Vettes there.
Never replaced mine but I did add HUD and have a non HUD windshield and have no issues at all so if you are paying out of pocket consider a non HUD glass. I understand its considerably cheaper.
Talked to an installer about my HUD Corvette windshield and he stated any good installer can do it. National installers like Safelite guarantees the install and against leaks for as long as you own the car.
Very minor scratches can be buffed out just like on paint clear coat. The resin patches can only be used in very specific small areas.
Had my 2006 coupe's windshield replacement in the last 2 months. Geico scheduled a repair with Safelite that did not work. The tech recommended replacement and stated the gasket normally needs to be replaced on a Vette that old. After Geico did not want to replace with OEM glass, Florida has the same free replacement policies, it took a heated phone call to Geico to get OEM authorized. Safelite got the new glass in and scheduled the work. The same tech that attempted the repair and stated the gasket would need replcement came to the house without the gasket. He ordered the gasket. Safelite received the gasket and scheduled the work in their shop. Third times a charm, right? Well I get called back to the work area for a problem. While cutting thru the sealant and old gasket, the tech let the cutter slip down around the interior trim panel at the top of the windshield. He cut a slot about 4 inches long before realizing what he had done. Safelite was very upfront about the mistake. They ordered and installed a new panel. I've other vehicles glass repaired and replaced by Safelite with no problems. Moral of story is you can get good and bad experience with the same problem or company. Just keep on eye on what they are doing.
I'm sorry to hear that; I'm in the same boat as you as well. I'm probably going to try to have mine done this coming week and I don't know where to go either. I had a chip repaired by safelite last year and I guess the resin didn't fill all the cracks because it was hot then it rained which I think caused this to explode out of the repair: Attachment 48370704 Attachment 48370705
Interesting that there were two windshield threads right as I was going to be looking them up.

Safelite replaced mine this year, it was $1075. That was a HUD windshield. I have $0 deductible, so no pain on my wallet.
You might want to check your insurance policy about replacement glass. When I had mine done, the list on the NON OE glass was over $1000 and they had to replace that one since it had defects. I made them use OE glass and it was about $400 more just for the glass.
Have no idea what the one person is talking about with a gasket????
They are put on with a strong glass adhesive that has to cure for a few hours but that is all.
I had my 2012 CE windshield replaced by Safeflite at the beginning of summer... They did a great job...it's is the GM windshield and yes my has HUD...they buff off the GM logo.

i have HUD and replaced my high mileage C6 windshield with a non hud windshield and see absolutely ZERO difference even in direct sunlight. and yes, the one that was replaced was the original OEM windshield.
saved $500 and just think if someone wrecks this windshield as well? That was the decision i made knowing i drive on the parkway whenever i take her out. just couldn't swallow another $1000 windshield replacement. $480? not so bad..
I have the NCM insurance and didn't want to make a claim with them as i was told the rate would go up. i'll keep my $200/yr premium please lol
I would like to know how the posted members know that the Safelite replacement is GM glass with the logo buffed off.
More than a few have posted that it is GM glass.
Honestly I'd like to know this too because the safelite tech that repaired my window told me he wouldn't use the safelite glass, but it may not be the same with C6 glass as opposed to a more mainstream vehicle.

Safelite in Houston replaced mine. He told me its the same glass and they had to remove the trademark GM form the glass before they would sell it to them. Here are the pictures...the GM was just above the 2 harsh marks. You can see the area it was scratched off the glass.
