Default jacking with 4 jacks?

Hey guys,

Do you think I could use 4 jacks to lift my GS up without issue? I want to jack the car up and take off all wheels off and paint calipers. Also how should I go About doing this to avoid messing up the car.

Thanks guys.

I've seen it done on 4 jackstands, but I've also read to only use two jack stands at a time, whatever that means.

So, to play it safe, I donated some blood and plasma to get the Race Ramps RR-78, 12" high, 14" wide ramps. But thst won't help if you wish to break down all four corners at once.

Just make sure your jackstands are solid and trustworthy of capacity per pair.

I've done it often, I jack the front first and place the jack stands under the pucks at the front spots and then jack the rear of the car up and place the other jacks uder the other pucks.
Just take your time and don't rush.

Very interesting I do essentially the same thing but I jack the car up using the puck locations and then put the jack stands at chassis locations per the drawing below.

The blue locations are where the pucks are located. Where do you lift the car from if the jack stands are at the puck locations?

Exactly. I want to put jack stand where the pucks are but can't figure out how to accomplish that. So what I was going to do is just use 4 floor jacks. I can't think of any other way as I do Not feel comfortable putting jacks stand anywhere but where the pucks go.

I put the jack on the frame between those blue spots and lifted the whole side of the car and put jack stands under the pucks. Painted calipers then did the same thing on the other side. Only 2 wheels off the car at a time.

Never felt safe putting Jack stands under the pucks. The pucks are smooth and I worry about them sliding off the stand. I jack up at the puck locations and put the stands on the GM preferred locations. No way for the car to move this way. Using 4 Jack stands at once has never been a problem.

I got the Esco 10498 stands and they have round rubber pads built in. A very nice set for the side jacking points.

Suggest raise left rear high enough to place your left front stand at the side jacking point. Then do the passenger side. Once they are in place, jack the rear subframe assembly up high enough and place remaining two jack stands at each of the left and right rear jacking points.

Lower rear subframe jacking location but keep in position once weight has settled on the side jackstands for additional safety.

I think the car will be much more stable with the stands at the BLUE locations if you want to have the entire car lifted up. The RED locations would be fine for having one end of the car lifted and the other end on the ground. Also, there is really no need to use the pucks under the jack stands if you locate them carefully at the BLUE / frame locations. I just put a folded rag over each jack stands so I don't scratch the frame.

In answer to your question YES you can use 4 jacks to lift your Vette just try to lift equally I would count the # of pumps per Jack go side to side front to back you can leave jacks in place but as a safety pre caution place Jack stand or homemade 6x6 as mentioned for safety

Lots of good ideas above already, so no matter where you put the jack stands, just be careful and allow for the base of the floor jack to move, because as you raise it up to the higher levels, the base will need to slide forward on your floor, as the jack lift arm pivots.

Here's one way to do it - for professionals only, don't try this at home

And here's another way that's a little safer

1) Lift the front with your jack in the center of the cradle, support with jack stands @ the recommended locations.

2) Repeat in the rear.

Car up and wheels off in about 5 - 10 min

I use some pieces of 2x4 to keep the steel of the jack and jack stands off of the aluminum cradles and spread the load.

Thanks for the Pics and the good ideas with the wood to protect the aluminum! This is a great idea....

Here's my method:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ng-method.html

Uses only factory preferred lifting locations for the jacks and frame lift locations for the stands. Utterly stable; I wouldn't hesitate to sleep under it. Then again, I also spent a great deal on the setup. I'm sure you could get by with a more economical approach.

Great stuff guys!

Thanks for the tip on the Esco jack stands. They're really nice with the flat rubber pads on top. Where do you get them?

And these are awesome! Nice work!
