Quit picking on the GSer. You know they are not equipped for a battle of wits.

My definition of a full exterior detail is much like what was done with your Corvette. When I do a full exterior, I remove the wheels and clean tires, wheels, brakes and wheel-wells. I then wash and dry the entire car, clay-bar all painted surfaces, evaluate the extent of swirls or damage to determine what polishes to use, polish using random orbital buffers, clean the surface with a pre-wax cleaner and finish with the owners choice of sealants, wax or a combination of both. The above process usually takes two days. If I do the interior and engine, that takes another day (and more money).
I'm not putting your detailer down, he did a fantastic job (especially on black!). I just WISH I could charge $100 an hour.

By comparison, most "professional" detail shops in my area charge $500-600 for what I do........complete with holograms and buffer trails.

agree with everything that duckvette states............ the latest and greatest thing is Ceramic Coatings......... like applying a layer of glass over the clear coat, so the vehicle's finish needs to be perfect.............. those coating kits runs about 150.00 or so, and depending upon who makes it, provides enough for 1 to 3 vehicle applications.............. Professional detailers typically get 1300 and up, depending upon location, how much correction is involved, and end user consumers expected result............... I get way too many "can you make my car like yours" requests by all kinds of people with short arms and deep pockets..

And based on this conversation, I AM going to raise my prices. I just can't bring myself to charge my friends over $1000 to do something I really enjoy doing.

based on "real world" costs for this type of work you could still charge them 1/2 of professional shop prices due to your time, talent, and products................. for me it is a relaxing type hobby thing to do, even though it is work.......................but it beats sitting in a barcalounger for too long............. got to keep moving, as time waits for no one.......

Just curious, do you wax over a ceramic coating? I actually like waxing my car and wouldn't want something I can't go out in the garage and wax whenever I feel like it.

You guys spend too much time and cash on appearance and not enough on performance. A once a month trip through the $3 car wash and a bi-annual 1 hour clay and Rejex application will leave enough time and money to make your Vette into a 10 second car worthy of the nameplate. (and I don't mean GS)

A guy has got to know his priorities.

Low and slow is the name of the game when it comes to GSers

I've found a clean and shiny car goes faster than it does when it is dirty.

Let me know when you want me to show you how slow my car is. You will have a good view of this.

NO, it is NOT recommended..................... the Adam's Ceramic Coating has a liquid similar to a Detail Spray which "revitalizes" the Ceramic Coating, and could be sprayed on and wiped off no more than a monthly basis.............. it adds to the shine, and increases the water "running off the surface" capabilities...................

most coatings also do not need more than 1 coat, maybe 2 to ensure complete, even coverage............. any more and the clarity of the finish is compromised..................

pretty certain that other coating companies also have a similar type product too
