We have seen these threads before about people getting locked in their cars and not being able to get out, now the terrible tragedy of someone dying in their car because they thought they were locked in.
Everyone please take the time to educate your spouse and all passengers on the emergency door release handles......it really could save someones life.
I'm truly surprised to hear how many people don't read their owners manual. The first day I own a new or used vehicle, I read the manual!!
Those same people post saying they are locked out of their car because of a dead battery! Or they are stuck in a parking lot because the fob battery died! Really?
If they read the manual they would know you use your key to open the trunk and release the drivers door. In addition, if fob battery is dead, you can insert it in the fob slot in the glove box and still drive the car! No reason you can't deal with either situation. Only difference is if the car battery is dead, you need a jump.

When I brought the Vette home from the dealer I noticed the two handles. We didn't have a clue but I looked them up in the manual. Too bad some people neglect to read their owners manual.
Perhaps the dealers will have to give detailed walk arounds pointing out each item. It used to annoy me when I had to sit through these indoctrination. Now I see how some people need them.

I'm actually surprised he didn't just start pulling on levers out of frustration. If only he would have pulled that one...sad!
A friend of mine who shall go nameless locked himself in a 2005 C6 coupe. He called his SIL on his phone to come and help him get out. He supposedly has owned over 20 Corvettes in his lifetime.
Later, he learned about the emergency buttons on the floor.

As mentioned, wonder why no one thinks to remove the top, no power needed there either!
Even if you don't read the manual, how can you miss those handles? They are large, have red letters on them and are right next to the seats.
Throw in the two big levers right in front of your head for the roof panel and it is amazing to me that anybody could think they have no way out of one of these cars.
Wow, I think of that guy who when he was faced with death actually cut his own arm off or was it his leg? ...he was trapped under a rock or something......and then we read this guy and he cant pull any levers or try anything? He kinda just gave up....

My guess is some people don't even think about or have a clue that the doors have electric latches, not mechanical like just about every other car they have owned. Add to that a little panic......it's crazy but I can understand how it could happen.

I can believe it.
When I bought my 07 it was inside the showroom with a dead battery. Salesman said it had been that way for 4 months. He also said there was no way to open the hood to charge the battery. This was at a Chevy dealership.
My cousin bought a C6 and asked him he ever opened up the manual to read it.
Well, after owning it for two months I showed him the handle and asked what is this in your car and he looked at with two heads, never saw it, told him to read it book it might save your life.
No, he still hasn't!
I'm not trying to be condescending or anything, but some of the numerous stories I've read about this never cease to amaze me.
When I very first bought my vette, I of course noticed right away that the doors were different and were not mechanical, but electronic. It occurred to me right away of how I would get in OR out if the vette had no power. So I pulled out the owners manual and satisfied my curiosity.
I really think part of it is the culture of today. I noticed years ago that it wasn't "trendy" or "cool" to learn technical things or be inquisitive about how something works. I think there are some people out there that are purposely ignorant to learning how some things work from a technical perspective because it's not "trendy" or "cool" to do so.

I had to show them how to get in with the key.
That's funny and sad at the same time isn't it
I often say that no matter where you work or what you do, have pride in what you do and take the time TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT THE PRODUCT, especially in sales.
Also Do NOT GIVE OUT INFO THAT IS NOT TRUE, just say I don't know
As for the incident how could no one notice a panic frightened man sitting in his car, unless he was parked way out of the way.
Sad none the less.
Showed my wife the handles tonite!!!!!!!!!!!
NSF
I do not want to sound heartless or not caring about this tragedy but is there a possibility he didn't want to get out, maybe there were health issues that prevented him from functioning in hot temps and if his battery was bad how did he get in, need more info on this
