Ok guys, I have found something that may work for you all with the manual tranny and don't have the CAGS eliminator installed. Found it purely by accident. I noticed when my 1 to 4 light came on I could pull my shifter out of first and instead of shifting into fourth I ever so slightly pushed it forward as if I was going to shift it back into first and I felt the gate open allowing me to then shift into second instead of first. I got so good at it that it became second nature and although the light would come on I could trick it into opening the gate. I don't know if it works on all M6's but it did on mine. Like I said I found it by accident and from then on it became habit and was never an issue. Just wanted to relay this info for those of you that would like to experiment and see if you can do the same.
Or you could simply increase the rpm's a bit more, the light goes away and you can easily shift into 2nd. There is a very narrow rpm band which forces you into the 1-to-4 shift. Continue to rev right through that band and you will never need a CAGS eliminator.

Reason: spelling

So what you're saying is that we need to go WOT everywhere. I approve of this logic.
I thought that skip shift would be the first mod that I made to my car, but with the gearing on the c6 I find that I naturally shift 1,3,5 unless I am in . hurry...... or just want to hear the growl....
Or, pull $20 out of your wallet, buy an eliminator, and shift however you want, any time you want?
Honestly I just don't understand the logic in changing the way you drive (more revs, shifter dancing, etc) just to avoid a device that serves absolutely no purpose and is easy and cheap to remove?
"I have a pebble in my shoe, but I find that if I walk in a certain way, it doesn't hurt me at all"
Maybe it's just my car or way of driving, but the CAGS comes into play very infrequently. And not because I roar out of every stop. It just doesn't seem to interfere much at all for me. I do like using 1-3-5 much of the time tho.

I hardly ever see the 1-4 indicator. And, for the Z51/GS tranny folks, since our 2nd is about as low as the base/Z06/ZR1 1st gear, I almost always do the 2-3-5 shifting around town.

I also barely ever notice the cags kicking in. I actually purchased a skip shift eliminator and when I had some extra time to install it, figured I didn't need it, and gave it away.
