It sound like the toe link either broke or came loose, assuming this car has a toe link.
Quite a while back a new 2014 C7 had something come loose in the right rear and the wheel was really askew. The person posted pictures and was ridiculed by many on that forum as a troll and said he probably hit something and caused the damage which he denied.
He reported that the cas was towed to the dealer and he was waiting for an answer to what had happened. GM got involved and came to a settlement with him that required the complete thread to be removed and he could not disclose the reolution.
I was driving 65 down the interstate Friday and something broke in the passenger rear causing the car to take a hard left. As I was spinning a semi hit and threw me into the catch fence in the medium. Any one hear of this?
Oh no!
I'm very sorry to hear about the incident that occurred. This is very concerning and we hope all parties are doing well in light of what happened. Please feel free to send us a message with your contact and vehicle information if additional assistance is needed. We'd be more than happy to hear from you and discuss this matter further.
Glad to hear you and your wife walked away from this crash. If Possible once in the air could you take pictures and post them here?
I am curious if there is anything that can be visually identified as causing this failure. How I would approach finding the issue --
Because this occurred in the rear, I would first start by making absolutely sure the lugs in the rear are tight -- I have seen far too many C6 corvettes having loose lugs. Loose lugs would cause a wobble and at 65mph would be dangerous.
If the lugs are tight, once in the air I would grab the failed wheel in the 12 and 6 o'clock position and try to move it up and down... there should be no movement. If there is movement, have someone under the vehicle listening for noises. This could point to the failure.
Once that is done I would try and rotate the wheel forward and reverse -- do you feel any binding or hear any clicking noises ? ( I am curious to see if this is a bearing / hub failure as you have extremely low miles for a hub to fail and usually the precursor to a failure is a click sound at very low speeds and if you touch the wheel while in motion, you will feel it pulsate in and out).
Best of luck and I hope you get the answers you deserve.

That's most likely abrasion from the catch fence cables in the median.
It's really scary to see that a practically new car can just break going down the highway. Glad he wasn't going faster, and that the semi just didn't run right over him.
An excerpt…
POST 3 – As far as I remember, there was a lot of engine noise/sound (probably due to acceleration) and then something like the rear of my Vette was kicked to the left and then to the right and immediately off road. I've done +/- 30 meters in the air before landing. My wife was behind me in her vehicle. She said: Z06 was just lifted and throwed away. There was no time to control the vehicle, eveything happened in couple of seconds. I have absolutely no idea what happened and why...
It’s most fortunate that driver and passenger emerged unscathed, unfortunate though regarding the property aspect.
Suggest review of the following link – your incidents bear similarity – and reference Post 23 as to the possibility of an inherent cause, ...IF the issue hasn’t been previously addressed.
Dealer still looking at it. Up to 30k in damages so far.
For a 2011 GS coupe that would probably cause the car to be totaled and you better hope that is what they do. A accident like that on the Carfax would kill the resale value and you cannot get diminished value on a accident not caused by someone else.
I once had the right rear long connecting bolt that connects the outboard edge of the leaf spring to the control arm break on my '98 while I was getting off the interstate. This sounds very similar to this... I was luckily at a much slower speed and was able to keep control of the car, but there was definitely a very loud "bang", then the whole right rear of the car fell down on itself, part of the inner fender was rubbing on the wheel and the leaf spring was dragging on the ground...
No work done. Car had 15000 miles. I've owned alot of Vettes, they are a very safe car but this does concern me. Wife and I had a ride but notva scratch.
check lower shock mount bolt to see if nut has backed off and bolt backed out
Wow...that is crazy. Glad everyone came out ok, altho I would imagine there were some sore spots the next day.
I would guess something broke on the rear suspension allowing the wheel to turn in like it did. It would not surprise me to find out the car is totaled. Bummer.
