I'm 66 and have been foolish a good while now with my '07 . I get thumbs up mostly and a lot of "that's what I want's" from guys with other rides. I'm a spirited, but careful driver (it's a Corvette, for goodness sake) and maybe seeing what a vette can do, brings back memories, excitement, and joy to "older" guys like myself .
Every time someone mentions midlife crisis to me my answer is always the same. You never know how long you will live! I have had friends die very young and it all reminds me to enjoy what I have while I have it.
When folks tell me it is a mid life crisis car I respond with this. Since I'm 50 and it is a "mid life" issue I guess that means I should live to be 100.....I'll take it!!!, and the only crisis I see about it is that it took me this long to be able to afford it" That usually shuts them up once and for all.................
68 years young here. Enjoying my new to me 09. Do not care what others think or the look they get on their faces.
I pay attention to my driving and my Corvette is the thrill for me. I would like to get another 25 years driving Corvettes !!!
Still remember touching the wire screen over the headlight of the first Corvette I touched in the showroom. The thrill is not gone.
I'm over on the C6 side because I'm thinking of getting one. 64 here and a C6 would be my sixth vette, so this thread is a good one.
I agree with the general consensus that it really doesn't matter what other people think, I'm not that fragile.
But to the OP if the attention bothers and you still want that vette experience, try driving a C4, you're invisible to everyone. Even C6 drivers.
Good point... I take my TTC5Z out for a ride, and less people try to screw with me. Surprising given the "WA 2 FST" plates.
When I had a '69 big-block convertible... it was nothing but thumbs-up everywhere. People wanted me to get on the throttle b/c it was extremely loud (sidepipes without much baffling). But that was all fun.
In my C6 (and probably even worse in a C7) it brings out the crazies. Again, its not that I _care_ what people think (b/c people who know me... business, neighbors, church friends... know it is just a hobby of mine). I just get tired of the consistent (not constant, but consistent) acts of other drivers who want to play Speed Racer, when all I'm doing is minding my own business.
My son is 20, and has an '07 coupe. He doesn't get as much crap as I do, and it is his only car, so he's in his a lot more.
Probably the oldest guy on here, 73, and I really don't care what other people think. I enjoy doing what I do, if that's being called a "waxer" well then so be it, but it is mine bought and paid for from a lifetime of hard work. That's about it

69 here and I have not seen or heard it much, but when I get the trying to recapture his childhood" or "Mid-life crisis' my reply is, neither. Just happen to love Corvette's and I have been driving them since 1968. So bother don't apply.
I'm 43, look really young, and I often get the look as if I'm too young to afford this. I try to be friendly, welcoming, and easy going...but I can't help what they feel and I don't care.
The truth is I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps (USMC retired) and I'm not rich, but I feel I freak'n earned this!! It's not the greatest Vette on the road (08 coupe, 3LT), but it's truly a piece of Americana which I love! I've never been happier with a car in my life!
I love this car!
I don't really get the mid-life accusations but once in a blue moon, and at 61 I say I am past that, besides I bought my first vette at 17- hardly a mid-life crisis. Perhaps it was a mid high school criris. One reason there are more gray hairs driving vettes is that the costs have gone up so much. If I were 17 now and was trying to buy a 7 year old vette as I did a long time ago, the cost would be way out of range.
35 here.
I have had a myriad of Japanese sports cars as they were affordable in my younger days, but always wanted a 'Vette.
As a 35th birthday gift to myself I could finally afford a true sports car and iconic vehicle. Everyone knows what it is and everyone has an opinion on the brash yank tank.
I call my car the mid-life crisis wagon in jest, but all my buddies love my car and help me working on the car on the weekends.
As for other people, if they give you hate, ignore them or embrace their jealousy. I busted my ***** for my car, I love it, and I don't care if anyone else thinks poorly of my car. I don't much like their generic car, but I feel no need to look down on them for driving an Altima etc
I'm 68, and have never had a negative comment about driving a Vette. People are always complimentary. Just last weekend I stopped at a Starbucks, and when I was walking in, a guy and his girlfriend/wife were sitting at a table outside, and he said he really liked the car. Didn't look at me askance because I'm old. I act a lot younger than I am though.
56 years old here and it really bothers me when I Hear "mid life crisis". I wish I did not care but I must because it gets to me. My wife of 32 years looks prettier to me now than she ever did. I am healthier than ever. My kids are doing great. My retirement is secure. There is no crisis here and I resent people assuming that I am compensating for some problem. I have always had cool cars and this is my dream. Some people just don't understand and for some lame reason, I care.
^^Same Here (age 58)
Edit: On second thought..........F'em.

I waited way too long to get my GS (new to me in 2013, I'm 66) to care about what other people say. However, I've only had positive comments so it's been all good.
I'm 48 now, bought my first vette in my late 20's. I bought it first and foremost for it's performance. I don't waste a second of my day worrying about what other's opinions of me and my car are. I never once felt funny about driving my car. If you are in the 40-70 range you are in the avg corvette demographic. At the end of the day, it's just a car. A very fun car, but a car. That's why I always heavily mod them and drive them rain or shine, even winters in the past with separate wheels and snow tires.
Side note: I do remember back in the 80's when I had long hair, guys would catch up to me only to be surprised/disappointed I was a dude. That would always crack me up. Lol

I'm 25 and I bought mine year ago mainly for the performance aspect...that and the first time I saw one when I was about 6 or 7 I knew I wanted one. I never really hear any negative comments, just waves from other owners and guys my age giving the thumbs up. If someone had something negative to say I'd just laugh at them anyway. I've noticed that it really irritates people when they try to make you mad and are unsuccessful
At 73, anytime younger girls or older women look my way, I always smile first and then they usually do too. I really don't care if it's the Vette, a crazy hat, or the funny way I walk that gets their attention. Regardless of how they viewed me before I saw them, the smile is the flirtatious complement that all women crave and you don't have to be single or handsome to do it. And after all, what guy doesn't look at women?
A smile works with men too, since it can be interpreted several ways depending on the attitude of the guy who is looking.
A smile can start a friendly conversation or stop an unfriendly one from ever happening.
