Default Self Maintenance!

I am an old fart so any maintenance on my 08 will be done by the chevy dealer or someone who knows way more than me about working on cars!! Other than wash and wax! that I will do!! no drive through car washes for this car!!
And this one will remain 99.999% stock! I am adding a M2W to it so not totally stock!
I admire all you out there who do self work on your car! I would probably have problems changing a light bulb on this thing!!
BTW today is 1 week Corvette ownership!!

No judgement here. As long as you enjoy the car, who cares if you choose to trust others with the maintenance.

Rock on.

Old dude (70) here also, but I do all my own oil changes, and detailing. No one touches the car for that but me. I do the mods, such as the interior mods of the carbon fiber pieces like the gauge surround and the center console radio surround as well as the smaller pieces on the doors. I also did all of the engine dress ups pieces. Anything major would go to the shop.

As much as I like doing my own work the big reason is I don't trust anyone else to do it.

I've owned cars for 53 years, never changed my own oil. Don't plan to start now.

If you don't feel comfortable doing technical maintenance or modifications by all means don't attempt it. Most of the time you will mess something up which will wind up costing you much more to correct than if you would had the work done by a knowledgable person in the first place.

I do minor maintenance on my vette as well as the Harley, and dd's. But something beyond my capabilities I bring to my friend.s repair shop. A man has got to know his limitations.....

I'll do any maintenance excluding internal engine or transmission repairs. Anything else is fair game. It is very satisfying when you do your own work...saves a ton of $$ as well.

I feel fortunate that at 74 I can still do everything I used to at 24. Just not as fast.

Being old and knowing how to do "any maintenance" are mutually exclusive, thank goodness.
I'll continue doing mine as long as I can.

The only thing I do to mine is wash and detail. Oh and I check the air in the tires and add if need be.
Other than that it goes to the dealer for everything else. I know my automotive skills....

Doing maintenance procedures is enhanced by having correct, complete instructions to follow. Keeps the guesswork or unneeded procedures from creeping in to the job. Having a factory service manual goes a long way to getting to the point of doing some of your own work. I stayed away from complex tasks for years, then after picking up a proper manual found that I could do just about anything when shown how. Once you stop doubting your abilities, well the sky's the limit.

What will make you think twice about doing your own work is whether you have access to the proper tools - so many of the modern cars require special tools and adapters. If you have them great, but many times they are expensive and/or require training to use them, making it worthwhile to take it to a pro instead. Right now, about the only thing I go to the shop for is alignments and tire mounting.
