You are asking people who are part of THE ICONIC AMERICAN SPORTS CAR brotherhood, whether they would choose their beloved Corvette or another GM product.
IMO all of us could have gotten another vehicle for lots of other reasons, and we all use them differently; for fun , show , speed , DD, racing, exhilaration or just transportation. But again, for most of us, there was no second choice. No one NEEDS a Corvette. You just either WANT one and wont give up till you get one; or you dont.
If you are caught up on the things an SS has or does, it may be the best choice for you. I know for a fact, many people dont get what a Vette is about.
Find an SS Forum and see what they think.
Only you know what you want , what you need and why you are interested in one vehicle or another. A decision like this comes from whats most important to you. You have to drive it, pay for it and live with it. The new tech features are great, but the Corvette has never had that as a focus( and has been criticized openly ) but that doesnt stop it from being the most celebrated sports car in American history.

Thanks for all the replies thus far - let me just clarify that I'm not looking at a Camaro. I share a lot of the same concerns, mainly that the market is heavily saturated with Camaros right now.
I'm looking at the Chevrolet SS. 4-door sedan with the LS3 engine.
SS sedan is a beautiful car.friend and I just had both our cars supercharged.C6 and SS sedan.the SS does everything well and made 570 rwhp.you wont be disappointed with the SS
Pretty funny that we all assumed that you meant a Camaro SS and not the Impala SS. It's sport sedan vs sports car...two completely diffrent animals. I would venture to suggest that you might also consider one of the Cadillacs as they are also very capable sports sedans...not your father's Cadillacs.
its not an Impala and their not that different except for body style.the last C6 I ran with it I put 49 bus lengths on it.Beware!

Good Luck
Well put. There are many good choices for transportation but if you get what a Corvette is all about there are very few replacements, none for the same money.
I for one do not want the new tech features like Google or apple car in my Corvette and will stop buying new ones if GM puts that crap into the car.
Hi all - I've been looking at Corvettes for a while now. I will be living in Connecticut for the coming year, but will be back down south in Charlotte after that. So beginning of 2017 is when I'm looking to buy. My budget is ideally 30-35, maybe pushing 40, although that would be bordering on fiscally irresponsible.
I have been eyeing a C7 since they came out, but it doesn't appear that any of them (even the 2014s) will drop down into my budget over the course of the next year. For that reason, I've been looking at C6s, which I know I could get in my price range.
The only thing that makes me wary of the C6 is the interior. Although this will be my first high-end car, and I am admittedly coming from a 2006 Ford Escape, this car will be a daily driver and I would like at least some creature comforts and safety features... Which brings me to the possibility of an SS. Same engine as the C6, but loaded with features, not to mention that prices on 2014s have already dropped into my 30-35 price range. I ultimately want a Corvette, but the SS is tempting if I can't get my hands on a C7.
Thoughts, ideas, comments? Thanks so much!
I had to laugh as I read your post. Only because you sound like me 2 years ago. My daily driver was and is a 94 Honda Civic VX (312,000 miles). I have wanted a Corvette for 23 years but kids slowed that down. When it was time to buy I looked at a loaded C6 base....but then looked at a 2012 SS for the same money. The attention a C6 draws will not be matched compared to an SS. If you hate attention STAY AWAY from the C6...LOL! Seriously, I could not be happier with the C6. And if you are like me you can't leave things alone. Kenwood stereo with backup camera, Curb Alert, Wild to Mild & new wheels are just a few of the " MODS" I just had to have. You won't regret it. Also, if you can't find what you want in your area, look out of state. I live in San Diego and found what I wanted in Chicago and saved $$ even with a one way airline ticket and hotel bills. But driving through the Rockey Mountains was awesome. Good luck.....and may the force be with you!LOL

I was in the same predicament buying and living with one car only vs. a CTS-V.
Vette:
Pros-
Flashier/Stand-out
True Sports Car
Decent MPG
Cons-
2 seats
Less room
CTS-V:
Pros-
4 seats
More room
Just as fast
Still cool
Cons-
Not a Sports Car feel
Not as much attention
Poor MPGs
SS:
Pros-
4 seats
More room
Lowkey
Decent MPGs
Cons-
Bland
No cool factor

Little story:
A few weeks ago I took a trip down to the casinos with my friends. There were two cars and I volunteered to be the second. I wanted to take the Vette as it was going to be a beautiful day and a nice long highway drive (2.5 hours-ish). But the Vette only seats two and there were 7 of us staying the weekend with luggage. That meant 5 people would have to cram into one car and 2 in the Vette. Didn't want to do that, so I ended up taking my beater with 4 people. It got the job done and we had a good trip. Sure it would have been awesome to have a -V or SS for that trip packed with everybody, but it was the people who made the ride not the vehicle choice. Long story short, I'm now in the process of trying to sell my beater for something just as efficient and nicer. That way I would have the best of both worlds: a nice fun car I can enjoy and something efficient and comfortable for 4.
But I realized I don't care about having 4 doors and a back seat because it's not my job to chauffeur people around, and I would just use my truck if I had to.
Performance to me is more important than amenities. I'm still in my 20's but I don't care for a lot of the tech in todays car. So it was pretty easy for me to get the Z06 vs the SS. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have an SS, but there's no way I'd get rid of my Z06 for one.
Took an hour drive (each way) to test drive a '15 SS mainly because they offer a manual transmission and the magnetic suspension now.
Have to say I was pretty impressed and actually really like the understated looks. It was not nearly as quick as I expected but was fun and very comfortable.
With that, I would not give up my car for one. Yes, the SS had more options and more comfort but just not the same. Doesn't help that my '09 is a convertible. If the two were sitting side-by-side, I'd opt for the 'Vette again. I say that having to emphasize that while my 'Vette is my daily driver about 80% of the time it is not my only vehicle; it it were completely different choice.
Now if we could trade the wife's vehicle for one, different conversation!

The Chevrolet SS is one ugly ... not even a comparo with the Corvette. Looks like a friggin Pontiac G8 and you can get one of those for 22k. Just in the looks comparison I would forego the loaded extras and buy the corvette base and get a good I phone with navi.....Should be 25k instead of the prices I am seeing for them around mid 30s.
Too many better options in the price range like:
Dodge SRT8
Mustang 5.0
BMW 325i or even an older M3
Infiniti g37
Camaro
Lexus IS 350
Cadillac CTSV for only 5 to 7 k more......

Frankly, I just don't understand your comparison at all.
The Corvette is a 2 seat sports car. The SS is a 4dr. sedan family box.
The 2 vehicles are soooooo different, it's like night and day.
Everything else aside, it seems to me the first thing you want to do is decided what kind of car your want.

I've owned four Vettes (currrent is 2012 GS Conv MT6) and with a new/first grandson it was my excuse to go test drive the SS. I even drove one with a manual 6 speed.....genuinely fun, comfortable and easy car to drive long distances, more comfortable than the Vette BUT it is 80% of what the Vette is to drive=fun. If you never drove a Vette and moved from, say a Camry type you would be thrilled BUT once you've played with a Vette, it pales.......a nice tough choice to have sir, have fun either way
