Hi all - I've been looking at Corvettes for a while now. I will be living in Connecticut for the coming year, but will be back down south in Charlotte after that. So beginning of 2017 is when I'm looking to buy. My budget is ideally 30-35, maybe pushing 40, although that would be bordering on fiscally irresponsible.
I have been eyeing a C7 since they came out, but it doesn't appear that any of them (even the 2014s) will drop down into my budget over the course of the next year. For that reason, I've been looking at C6s, which I know I could get in my price range.
The only thing that makes me wary of the C6 is the interior. Although this will be my first high-end car, and I am admittedly coming from a 2006 Ford Escape, this car will be a daily driver and I would like at least some creature comforts and safety features... Which brings me to the possibility of an SS. Same engine as the C6, but loaded with features, not to mention that prices on 2014s have already dropped into my 30-35 price range. I ultimately want a Corvette, but the SS is tempting if I can't get my hands on a C7.
If you need seating for 4, go for the SS. If not, get the corvette.
No seriously, you need to go look and drive the various corvettes. You have autos, manuals, coupes, convertibles, Grand Sports, Z06's ZR1's, LT1 thru LT4 option packages - and that is just the beginning of C6 setups.
Once you learn some of them, and found the type corvette you really like, then go compare to the various options SS versions, so that you can decide better what you want.
Thanks for the advice Seadawg, I should have been more specific. I would want a coupe, either base or GS, not Z06 or ZR1. Most likely automatic. LT3 or LT4, probably with navigation. My only concern with the nav is that I've heard the latest update was in 2013 so there may be some data out of date.

Owned both they are two different animals.
Drive both as hard as you ever will and you will see what I mean.As far as the
Interior goes the c6 is every bit as nice as the camaros probibly nicer. The c7 interior is nice but tight so if you are a bigger person you may or may not enjoy it.
Drove all three and owned both the camaro ss and the C6 and I greatly prefer the C6 Grandsport it's quicker handles better and I personally like the looks more.So unless you have a need for an almost unusable back seat then I would buy the C6.But my advice is to try them both and see which one you like.
As you probibly noticed I'm not bashing the Camaro just like the vette better
My cousin and his son-in-law both have an SS. You are correct, they are fairly nice inside and do have features my 2012 Centennial GS do not. They are pretty fast but weight ~600 pounds more than a Vette, and are not as fast. All that being said, there is a back seat, and a large one! When I was ready to buy a car, I considered an SS, but I couldn't get past the homogenized Chevrolet styling. I mean, it looks like just about every other Chevy car made over the past couple of years. That, and the fact that I have wanted a Vette since I was six or seven years old. The SS will be much more practical than a Vette, so I think you need to decide what is important to YOU. You can't go wrong with either, but they are different beasts.
Good luck and post a picture once you've made your purchase.

As far as the nav I have owned almost all the brands with nav and everyone of them lacks if you travel enough.
I prefer my smartphone over every one of them. Its always up to date.Just need to remember a charger.
I've owned an '11 SS and my current 2005 C6, so take this as you wish... some may view my comparison as apples to oranges...
They are night and day cars. Visibility in the SS was HORRIBLE. Blind spots over your shoulder are unavoidable. And to me the slope of the hood made it near impossible to park the thing, I know that sounds odd looking at the front end of the vette.
Considerably more road noise in the SS, it was just a cruder car to me. And the SS was LOADED with everything.
My Corvette rides so much smoother than the SS did, IMO.
Power wasn't a concern for me, with either car. I didn't buy either for that.
Upgrade possibilities are endless as you are aware.
Like someone else suggested, drive both and I think you will easily realize the differences and make a great decision.
Keep us posted.

There is a guy selling a GS for $40,000 on here it has 9,500 miles It is priced about $2500 under retail. You should take a look and see if you can get it cheaper, then that would be a nice price.
Do you want a true sports car . . . or a family sedan?
FWIW: I love the interior and all the gadgetry on my '07 LT3. It has way more "stuff" than I need. So far, at 28k miles, everything works although that will surely change someday.
The C6 has what I call a 'presence' when it is in a parking lot. Even people who are not interested in cars will turn and look. It's just not the same with a Camaro. I would say that if you need four seats and a bigger trunk, get the Camaro, but if you have the luxury of not needing those things, get the C6.

I agree but if I paid close to $70,000 for a new GS and I now see them selling for $40,000 It would make me sick. I just do not have $30,000 to throw away.
I want to add, again my opinion.
The Camaro is become the 'mustang' of GM products. Meaning they are EVERYWHERE
The Corvette... there is no comparison, it is a vehicle like no other.
Flame on!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the replies thus far - let me just clarify that I'm not looking at a Camaro. I share a lot of the same concerns, mainly that the market is heavily saturated with Camaros right now.
I'm looking at the Chevrolet SS. 4-door sedan with the LS3 engine.
The SS and Vette are not even a comparison. Is this going to be your daily driver and are you taking 3 or more people. Because your not gonna be doing that in a Vette. The SS to me a Chevy's version of a Cadillac. Performance with four doors.

It's at least somewhat comparable, I mean it is the same engine after all, but I take your point. It will be a daily driver, but I'm young (early 20s), so I'm not super concerned with being able to carry a car full of people.
Pretty funny that we all assumed that you meant a Camaro SS and not the Impala SS. It's sport sedan vs sports car...two completely diffrent animals. I would venture to suggest that you might also consider one of the Cadillacs as they are also very capable sports sedans...not your father's Cadillacs.
Go with a C6. A guy in his 20's should not be driving an SS. For $35k you can find a nice low mileage one owner C6. Doesn't matter if the engine is the same, totally different experience. I love my 13GS, been trouble free for the 2 1/2 years I've owned it.
