I've read reviews from other members saying that Flowmaster axelback had a nasty drone at 1500-1800RPM and sounded sweet after that. That couldn't be more true. As lovely as it sounds at any RPMs, it's killing me with a top up in 6th gear on the freeway... There's no other issue I have with and and It's still more than worth it.
My questions are... Will adding an x pipe or anything else ease that drone? Could this be because it's an axelback? Will I be better off with a Magnaflow axelback instead?
My Grand Sport has a slight drone at the same RPM range w/my cars aftermarket exhaust system as well. Mine has longtube headers & a catted x-pipe as well. I'm looking into this insulation kit in the link below...I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm still deciding if I would rather cut & layer a Dynapad/Dynaliner combo on my own or get a pre-cut kit... http://www.exoticvette.com/insulation%20c6.htm

That's a think outside the box idea but for this to work it'd need to be pretty heavy like dynamat. I'd rather stick to options with exhaust modification like an X or H pipe or something along those lines. Still, appreciate the input.

No problem . If those X or H mods don't do the trick, you might keep the option on the table for down the road. If you're going to hold on to the car for a while.
The drone on mine isn't bad EXCEPT when I'm on a freeway in 6th gear touching the pedal to keep the speed. It has this super deep vacuum cleaner motorboat sound which I'm sure would be fine with the top down. That's my concern.

Well, my advice is if it bothers ya that much go grab a MagnaFlow axle back. IMO the best all around exhaust system for most performance cars. They are not that expensive.

I don't suppose you know how it compares to flows sound wise? Yes I've read reviews and YouTube videos don't show much through mic and speakers...

Well, to me over the years the Flowmasters seem to have more of a raspy sound to them. Again IMO Magnaflow has done this right. When I go WOT the MagnaFlow sounds great. I will try and get ya a video mañana. But it will be over speakers so not sure how much it will help ya.
No it won't help at all. I went that road, I ended up switching to Corsa sports with long tube headers. Perfection to my ears.
Nothing you do, even dynamat will get rid of the drone.
One more question. Would the drone go down once the hardware breaks in after a few hundred miles?
This may be type of exhaust specific, but the drone on mine got louder after a few hundred miles. Maybe w/a few heat cycles & what not. I have long tube headers, catted x-pipe & dual mode Akrapovic Zo6 exhaust. The drone is noticeable when it's closed at 1500-2500 RPM. I didn't notice it much until a few hundred miles after the installation. There are no leaks, everything is tight & the tune is spot on. When the exhaust flaps are open, it just sounds like a race car so I don't care at that point because Jekyll is gone & Hyde has taken over. The closed mode is mostly for my wife, so she will get in the car to go out- lol.
