meaning.....there is no chance someone else will ever find it in there????
I keep my fob and two other keys I need on a small clip hung on my belt loop. Prior to doing this, I was forever looking for my keys. Now, they are on me when I first get dressed, until I go to bed.
My point is on road trips is to keep the two in separate places. That way you can't lock both in the trunk or (take your pick of ways to lose one or both).
You have to pick "passive door lock" from the menu to get it to lock in 8 seconds when you leave the car... You can also pick if you want the horn to beep when auto locking the car..Auto lock is a great feature , especially for the guys on here over 65 years old........WW

Great feature for us on here over 70 years old also.
I always have it set in my DIC options, BUT - For years my 2008 would sometimes not lock. I brought her to the dealer twice for not locking, but it always stayed locked for them.
Finally I learned that the 3rd and 4th FOBS will not LOCK automatically...It's a valet type safety feature...
You can check the 3rd and/or 4th fob by going into the DIC and try and set the options to auto lock the door, and it's greyed out.

You have 4 FOB's? Or is there a setting for FOB #3 and #4 that you're talking about?

I have 3 FOB's...two for me, and one always hidden in the car wrapped in aluminum foil, with a key to the trunk hidden outside the cabin.
Believe me...when I lost my FOB at the beach - you can forget about driving the car. Sure ONSTAR opened the door, but I still had to drive 200 miles RT to get my spare FOB at home...never gain. So now I have a contingency plan that works.
FOB 1 & 2 can be fully programmed, but #3 and/or #4 will not allow auto locking. Problem is - how do you know it's not locking? I was only aware it wasn't locking when I tried to open the door when I left the FOB in my house. To my horror - it wasn't auto locked.
I don't like disturbing the peace with the horn acknowledgement beep.
Not only is auto lock not programmable for fob 3 and 4 but no memory options can be set either. Nothing is greyed out on the dic but when you push the options button it will say options unavailable if you have fob 3 or 4.
