Auto Lock?

Auto Lock?
Basic question and I did read the manual but couldn't find an answer. I always thought the C6 (mine's an '05) had the auto lock technology, you walked away from the car with FOB in pocket and after a distance the doors automatically locked. Got in the car recently, the doors opened but I couldn't start the car. I then realized I didn't have my FOB in my pocket but the doors were open. So my question is do you have to manually lock the doors every time you leave it, either with the button inside the car or with the FOB? Thank you...

You have to make sure that feature is turned on using the options button on the dic.
Also, when it's on it has a timed delay before it locks, not distance.

Thanks EV and WW, I have to check the DIC settings again. I went through them the other day and didn't see a setting for auto lock, I'll look again later! I thought I remembered the car doing that at one point but maybe with battery changes and recall work it might heave reset that setting.

AH, I think you may have hit the nail on the head...the other day sitting in the car I noticed I had #2 FOB with me, I always used #1. Didn't think much of it then but you're saying this now that might be the problem, I'll check when I go out, thank you!

Page 3-72 in the 2005 owner's manual:
Passive Door Locking: This option allows you to
select whether the doors automatically lock when the
ignition is turned off, the keyless access transmitter has
been removed from the interior of the vehicle, and
the doors have been closed for eight seconds. If
a keyless access transmitter is left inside of the vehicle,
the doors will not lock. You may temporarily disable
the passive door locking feature by pressing a
door unlock switch for three seconds while a door is
open. Passive door locking will then remain disabled
until a door lock switch is pressed or until the power
mode transitions from the off power mode.
Press the OPTION button until PASSIVE DOOR
LOCKING appears on the display, then press the
RESET button to scroll through the following modes:
• OFF (default)
• SILENT
• HORN
If you choose OFF, this option will turn off.
If you choose SILENT, the doors will automatically lock
eight seconds after you turn the ignition off, remove
the keyless access transmitter from the interior of the
vehicle, and close both doors.
If you choose HORN, the doors will automatically lock
and the horn will chirp eight seconds after you turn
the ignition off, remove the keyless access transmitter
from the interior of the vehicle, and close both doors.
If you are parking in a quiet area and do not want
the horn to sound when the doors lock, press the lock
button on the keyless access transmitter immediately
after removing it from the interior and closing the doors.
This will lock the doors and cancel the passive locking
for this ignition cycle.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance to the
next personal option.

I have always left my auto lock turned off. There is no need for it to be locked in my garage and I don't want to have to grab a fob every time I go out there to do something with the car. Out and about I always just push the lock button on the door before I close it.

Maybe I'm special but I've been able to remember to lock my car since the 1970's, and I can still remember to do it with the C6.

In my other vehicles I hit the lock button on the door as I get out, so I never use the keyfob to lock the doors. I do find it inconvenient when I try to get something out of my GS when its parked in the garage and the doors are locked.

My Vettes hav been sitting in an open-air carport for the last 12 years, so I keep mine locked all the time I'm not driving them.
Auto-locking just makes things easier for me.

I've had auto lock enabled for the last eleven years, and every time I drive my truck or some other (rental) car, I come back to it and it opens just like my Vette.
I think to myself,"cool" until I realize that I never locked it!

I have one fob that auto-locks and one that does not. I worry that I'll get locked out of my own car (yes, I know that does not make any sense), so I prefer to do it manually.
I imagine if I'm at the gas station and the fob is inside the car, the car will have a panic attack and honk at me, as opposed to locking me out. Maybe I've seen Christine too many times.

One that does and one that doesn't is absolutely a setting issue. Make sure both driver settings are set the same (however you choose).

I use auto lock all the time. Love it. But don't leave your fob in your gym bag and toss it in the back of the car. Lol. Instant lock out. Lol
So ever since I have a spare trunk key hidden in a hide a key on the car. Never get locked out again. And if I'm out someplace I don't want to take keys with me. I'll lock them in the car. And use my hide a few to get in and get the keys. Hate to lose them and not be able to get home. Lol.
And if someone finds the key all their doing is gettin in the car. Not going anywhere.
