Lighter is always better for several reasons. But for a DD, most people won't accept the higher price and other disadvantages of a smaller battery.
A Corvette has about 8 lbs per HP, depending on which engine and car you are driving. So saving 24 lbs on the battery is the equivalent of gaining 3 HP. Not enough to interest me, especially since I should be taking those pounds off my body instead of off my battery.
And as Boeing showed us with their B-787, unusual batteries can have unusual problems.

Unless someone is racing, I really don't think the difference in weight is noticeable. My better half is 300+lbs of hotness. If I could do a quick 0-60 blindfolded, I seriously doubt that I could tell by g Force if she was in the car or not. I've had the car loaded down including dogs, luggage and wife and it still pulls like crazy. What's lost by weight is probably made up for in traction.
