I just had my windows tinted, noticed that the top where the OEM dots are the tint did not adhere to the glass as well.... It looks pretty crappy. The tint people stated that this is common on hatchbacks with the OEM dots. I called BS on this, Im having them remove it...
So whats the scoop here guys? How did your hatch get tinted? What am I missing here?
I remember doing a search right before I got mine tinted and heard the same thing. Mine shows a little of that after 8 years now. It seems to depend on who you go to for the tinting and if they know exactly how to work the tint into that area.
Mine looks like that. I took it to the same tint shop that's done 13 other cars for me. They've been in business since 1975! They did the back glass 5 times. Is it perfect? No. Do I think they did the best they could? Yes. Most other Corvettes I've seen have a similar result. Those little dots are problematic.
Others will probably report different results or solutions like scraping the dots off first or using black vinyl as noted above.
Yes the "Matrix" is a problematic area to tint. Mine looks like yours Durien. I have also heard of the solutions mentioned above, I have yet to try any of them.
I got some plain black vinyl on ebay and covered the matrix with that....when I had the tint done I had them leave the matrix uncovered and then made a template to cut the solid black vinyl to cover it.
every one ive ever had done has this. 3 vettes, 2 Z28's and a trans am. it's the nature of it. live with it. save the time going back cause they can't fix it.
The dots are problems for all vehicles with tint, we just have a ridiculous shape and a lot of the dots on top of it.
Guys don't even try to remove the " DOT"s I guarantee you will ruin your back window and you do not even want to guess how much it will cost you ...... ( READ IT AS REAL EXPENSIVE )
The black on our glass is ceramic coating and not paint ....
As the others have stated either use black vinyl in that area or a thinner gauge window tint that will conform around the dots
there is truly no way around it. unless you want to by a hatch window that is free of defrosters and those damn dots. my car has it too. but after a while you don't notice it. the first two days i did everything to make it look better, and honestly yours looks pretty good. but it will alway be like that. The tinting guys were correct this is common on windows with dots. i wouldn't have them remove it, because you will be wasting your time and money brother.

Mine has the exact same thing. Bothered me at first, don't even notice it anymore.
I have very little thanks to a very good installer that used a good film. Had mine done shortly after buying it in '06 and what little I have I don't even notice anymore

Lots of threads here. For best results, Google search "C6 Forum window tint"
If you have the patience, have them redo it. Otherwise, get a refund and take your business elsewhere.
My installer used Elmer's clear glue, and it is acceptable. It would have been better if my installer had taken more time with the squeegee. I worked on it a bit after the install to further eliminate the air pockets around the dots.
Others like the vinyl, but unless you are at 15% or darker, I personally think it doesn't look right as you can see where the black vinyl ends and tint starts.
