Default Putting it in reverse when parking

Hey guys I have a 2009 6 speed manual and I had heard that your supposed to put the car in reverse to shut the car off. Do I really need too? Why? Do I put it in reverse before I press off or after I press off shift it into reverse ? I find this issue strange so want some extra insight. Thanks!

Only 2005's needed to be put into reverse or the cars computer won't shut down. In mine the door button wont work till its in reverse. Only 05's with the M6.

Only applies to the 2005 model.

2005 only.
Some folks on here will tell you to leave it neutral and set the parking brake. For me, I shut the car off, put it in reverse, and set the pbrake. Just me

I always leave my car in 1st with the parking brake on. 1st or reverse is the norm for most. My only exception is when I leave it parked in the garage for long periods I will sometimes leave the e-brake off.

No need anymore. Did it come with an owners manual. Some good reading in it and will tell you a lot of things you can do with the car. Not the best thing in the world, but still should be read. I have owned a C6 for 10 years now, and still go back to owners manual from time to time.

My 07 owners manual says to leave the car in reverse when parking the car. So it is not just for 05 model years. I believe it is supposed to help prevent battery drain. Read your manual.

That info in your om is a carry over from 05. It is in fact only required for 05's.

True for the battery drain issue. But still a good safety procedure.

Your car will tell you if you need to. Alarm will sound and DIC will instruct you when you shut off the car if not in reverse. But old news. 05 only. GM was trying to force us to park in lowest gear. They wised up quickly, thou not quick enough.

I have a 2006 6M with the memory package. If the Vette is not in reverse with the parking brake engaged, the memory package will not work.

this is a holdover from the 2005. Its not necessary in the 2006-2013. But it does state so in the manual so I always do it

I read the manual also and I agree, it does state to do these two things for the memory package to work on the 6M. If I don't do these, the memory package does not work.

Seems to me the manual did say to leave it in reverse when parked, so that's what I always do with mine.

Default Way back when

There was a time when you had to park with the shifter in reverse for the anti theft trans/steering wheel lock to function. I am still use to parking it in reverse.
