Official CHP site has them listed as inspection facilities.

I curse CA laws every day.

If you're looking for a cheap replacement, I have an OEM axle-back muffler in San Diego. PM me if interested.

As far as I know, if you go to any CHP office, they will have an officer look at the vehicle, and sign off on the correction, IF HE/SHE AGREES IT IS NOW IN COMPLIANCE.

clive, I was born in CA in 1950, and moved out in 1994. I loved the geography of the state, but have NEVER, EVER missed the population, the laws, or the politics.

I have a relative who is considering moving back to CA. He will HAVE to dispose of $50,000 worth of firearms, and two vehicles. Is that what is considered freedom in America???

It seems overwhelming at our age but my wife and I are considering following our daughter to Az. She moved to Cave Creek the first of Feb and it's a fantastic area.

The most recent insane action by the California legislature was to change a law passed during the cold war and now Communists can hold state offices. I guess that isn't much different than the socialist lefties in charge now.

In addition to that, voters turned down a gas tax increase in the last election so now they are imposing a fee instead. Gasoline will be 12 cents a gallon and diesel 20 cents a gallon higher. They are also increasing vehicle registration fees. This can be done without voter approval.

With the high taxes, expensive real estate and strange 'liberal' laws they have in California, many may say they have had enough, but unfortunately, just can't leave.

I think many of the folks living there just are not in a very good position to leave, since the jobs they currently hold pay very good money. It's just not practical for these folks just to pull up roots and leave.

You also see some of this same stuff going on in places like New York City ... Another overpriced area ... but the pay is good.

I am very happy that I am not in that situation ....

California and the New York metro area ... I don't want any part of either one of them !

Following not related to original post...

I know you liked Cave Creek when you visited, and so did your wife. It would be a good time to get out of CA, and closer to your daughter. I would move closer to my son, but he is in Seattle, and that is the wrong direction.

I think you are going to see CA implode in the next 5 years. Similar to Greece, they cannot afford all the programs they have set up, and if they cut the programs, there will be riots in the streets. When they put G. Brown in office, that assured there would be no fiscal responsibility.

BTW, did you see the felony investigation of Janet Napolitano's admin. that is going on? It is wild. Moonbeam had to put $50Mil in emergency funding for the University system.

CA is whacked out.

I lived in Scottsdale, AZ for five years before I had enough of the incessant heat and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Before you make a permanent move to Cave Creek, you should live there through the end of the year first. It is very hot for many months. February is the coolest month of the year. I just check the weather. Tomorrow it will be 104. There will be no cool days or nights, or will it drop below 100 until December. It will get hotter though. In June it will be over 110. By late June it will be 115, and will get hotter up to 118 and sometimes 120 degrees. It will be like that until November, then cool down to the 90's and up to 100.

Most people of retirement age who live there are called snow birds. They only live in Arizona from October to March. The Spring and Summer are spend in Florida or someplace cooler.

Just check it out before you make a permanent decision you may regret.

This is technically still the op's topic. Leaving California is the best advice to answer his question.

Our weather is much different than the bay area. This state is rapidly becoming Venezuela and heat will be easier to tolerate than that.

My daughter who moved to Cave Creek also lived in Las Vegas for 9 years and we visited her all times of the year.
I also retired from the power company after 45 years. Most of it was working outside in San Diego east county, mountains and the desert.

If we do decide to move, I'm sure we won't regret it.

Well aren't you pleasant. Go back to the Prius forum where you belong and necro post there.

Ah ok, so you're one of the mindless followers who think the state government is actually doing a good job despite their having put the state into bankruptcy and driven the biggest corporations out. That explains a hell of a lot. Enjoy your Prius. Just remember one thing: I get better gas mileage than you do at 140 mph.

Yeah, but the cops don't dare bother the homeless who crap on the sidewalk (seen it), others who leave their used needles all over the place (seen it), others who live in 2 bdrm homes with 17 residents (seen it), or those living in the hundreds of tent cities statewide. You can have the wall-to-wall crowds at restaurants, beaches, parks, even hiking trails (seen it all). You can have the 800 sq. ft. 2 bdrm apt. that rents for $3K per month, or same which sells for over $1M (seen both). I was born in CA in 1950, lived in several areas until I moved out in 2003. At the time I moved, my business employed 14 people, with a payroll of $1.2M (not including me). I moved to NV, and continued my business, with more profit, and better net income compared to cost of living for employees.

I have many friends still living in CA. Almost to the person, they look forward to when they are able to retire and move out. If you like it, more power to you. In the end, your diseased state and local governments are going to reduce all but the very rich to low-middle income, and every town but B. Hills-like areas to crapholes. Hope you come to your senses before it is too late.

But if you are going to roll around in a loud *** ride, you better know your State laws and be prepared accordingly.
