Default Fluid Change?

I purchased my Vette new in Sept 2005. I have 37,000 miles and I've changed the oil twice and purchased new tires. What else do I need? Fluids changed, brakes seem ok..... your thoughts????

You really should have changed the oil more often than that. GM says at least once a year, but you really should change it at least once every 10K to 12K miles.

You've changed the oil twice in 37,000 miles and 12 years !!!! The advice I'd give you, you probably wouldn't believe anyway. Read the manual.

He did. The original and two changes in 37k.
Without knowing the circumstances (parked in heated garage, local miles) I find it hard to say if it was changed too much or too little.
OP, read the manual and change fluids as per GM recommendations for time and miles.
Brakes should be good but...how do you drive the car? Battery I assume was changed. Tires...time is the killer here.
My question is: at 3000 miles per year average (and I bet the first years were more miles) why not sell the car and move on?

Power steering fluid, brake fluid, coolant/reservoir flush, tranny, diff, battery, hoses(?), belt(s)... Oil again too (dammit)..

And yep.. It's prolly time to vacuum under the floor mats. Or not.

Seriously: 12 years is a very long time to go with ALL of the fluids, including the electrolyte in the battery - IMHO.

Is this a joke? AP, you're on CF since '05, owned your car 12 years and you are seriously asking this question about fluids? Of course, there are those who fully agree with your "maintenance schedule"............

I'm with rux: sell the car, and I'm glad to not be the next owner.

Since you either don't believe GM engineer know anything about the cars they design or you can't read, I'd say you are doing fine and won't take any advice you receive here. Carry on.

I would do a Vulcan mind meld with the car. Can you hear it screaming? Feed me! Feed me!

My car has 95k and the one owner I bounty it from had the oil changed every 3k and the rest of the fluids changed as the book dictated. Except the tranny which is not due till 100k.
So when I bought it a few months ago, I felt confident the car was well takin care of.
So use the book as your guiding light.

Well heck fire, you've opened up a big-ol-can-a-worms posting this question in this forum. Of course the main streamers are gonna call you an #$%^& for going so long without at least oil changes. And then theres the ones that think you should change your brake fluid after every 4-5 stops....HUH? Me thinks maybe it's not such a bad thing as some people seem to want to say. I went years sometimes without regular fluid changes on some of my other hot rods & vettes and never had a related problem. But you did leave out one of the most important things.....and that would be changing the air in the tires....don't cha know that the air wears out ?.....

Check the brake pad thickness, especially if most of your driving was local.
If you've never changed the wiper blades, you might consider it in case you get caught in rain again.

As you can tell from other responses, some people are real **** about maintenance. Their old school habits are hard to break and/or overcome their fears.

Maintenance can be either preventative or reactionary. Preventative is best practiced for safety items and long term use.
Your car will survive for several more years at the current rate of use if you keep an eye open for significant changes that could quickly become reactionary.

I put special dryer air in my tires for winter. Costs a lit more. Makes em store better, too.

LOL and touche. Try adding some fabric sheets sometime so as to keep them fresh. Kinda hard getting that thing through the valve stem, but you can make it work.....

I can see you don't read the manual or even properly take care of your car I would do nothing.
Now if it was my car, I would have changed all the fluids, and do oil changes at least once year!

You're doing it wrong. You should put in winter air at the beginning of summer to keep the tires cool and summer air just before winter to keep them toasty when it's cold.

Back in the 70s I knew a guy who bought a Datsun 240Z kept it for 10 years and bragged he never changed the oil. I was horrified but he never had one mechanical problem.

Good idea. When I let the air out it always smells like a tire fart.
