Default Found myself on track!

Went to a show at private track and next thing you know they're telling us we can go on the track. It was single file behind a pace car on a 2 mile road course. Got up to 70, not exactly burning up the track but for a 1st timer that seemed fine considering a 90 degree turn is coming.
The track was wider than I expected and you gotta love that pristine surface! So my baby became a monster today, what a total rush!
Can see why the guys at work that do track days highly recommend it. Good marketing by the track folks, I will be back.

Very nice Carvin! That was cool of them to do that and a great experience. Yes, it is a complete rush. With some very simple prep, you can get out there at speed. This is when it really gets fun....

Well there are pros and cons to every scenario. In this case, the Pros is that you got to put in some track time and that's awesome! The Con is (and its a big one), is that now I'm a little jealous and that stinks! Glad you had fun!

Walworth is right near me. Nice little town. If your tires are newer, and have sufficient tread then start with the brakes before anything. Motul 600 fluid and some fresh racing pads like Carbotech XP10 front and XP8 rear.

The brakes are literally the most important thing to address on our cars if you are going to track at speed. There are many other things, but this is the place to start and it doesn't have to be a major operation. Simply bleed the brake fluid with a high temp DOT4 like Motul 600 and toss on some better pads that will hold up to the higher heat. Don't worry about stickier tires until you can use them (assuming your stockers are in good shape). There are other things that should be done to prep our cars for the track, but always start with the brakes.

It can be a very safe, enjoyable experience. You will learn so much about your car and driving skills, that are almost never, ever tested properly on the street. I swore I was a great driver, until when years ago I decided to test my skills on an actual race track. Boy was I surprised.

Since I was not expecting to drive the track I didn't bring an SLR & only had my iPhone4 so no pix.
My Vette is in the avatar, 2008 A6 with Vitesse & Diablo tune.

Track is Autobahn Country Club outside Chicago.

Good info, thx Mordeth!

A couple of guys at work are into it but I thought I'd rather go places than go around a circuit.
When I read posts here where guys would mention that they will never track their car I agreed.
Classic case of "never say never"!

Sounds fun!

I'm going to try to get up to a track day in Portland in August. $150 for 3 20 minute sessions it seems like. Really looking forward to it

The other thing which is obvious but I never thought about is what a treat it is to drive on that pristine surface! No cops, no potholes - what's not to like?
