Default RE: Rear Hatch button repair - DIY Many pictures

Thank you Paul (talon90) for your illustrated how-to in the FAQ. Red's trunk lid release button has been inop for almost a year. Tonight the heavens converged with a screwdriver with a T15 bit, your illustrated how-to, and fifteen minutes of time after work. Your pictures made it possible.

I'd purchased a new switch from Gene Culley, but thought I'd try peeling the rubber top from the old switch and cleaning out the fine silt that had accumulated in it and around the plunger underneath. A little canned air to dry everything out, snap everything back into place, and VOILA! The old button now works as smoothly and as reliably as brand new. I'll just tuck away the new part from Gene along with the duplicate driver's door finger pad switch and maybe in another ten years I'll get around to installing them.

I've got to do this. It's only been a month or two and both the fob and inside release still work so I know it's just the switch that needs to be cleaned. I hate having things that don't work!

funny thing is I thought the rubber cover should actually stop that dirt and silt from getting in in the first place..

Just took mine apart, in less then 10 minutes, and found the switch loaded with dirt, and tried to get the buttons to work, I had pried up the button, and when I pulled it away from the switch housing plenty of sand loaded, blew it out and the button works great.

Easy part was installations, I slipped the switch into the hole, and aligned the plug, and it snapped right into place and inserted the switch, works great again.
Below is OEM of the switch, incase you ever need it.
