I know I'm sure this is asked a lot but I have a base c6 An it's making a little over 700 to the back tires, I'm need to know the best tire set up for a 17" wheel It's either a 275/40 orrr a 305/45 I have the 275 now, an it hooks okay but I street race a lot so I want yalls opinion
It's just a base c6 so no wide body, and yes it's in Mickey Thompson ET street SS 275/17s right now I just didn't know if their was a better tire, or if I should try bias tire or if I should do the 305

Go with the 305. That's about the widest you'll be able to go on base wheels. You might think about going widebody on the rears, though, as 700 HP is more than base wheels are able to handle. Typically, anything over 600 HP requires widebody sizes to stick with any success.

Ok thanks man, it's pretty expensive for everything you need for the rear ain't it?
PSS are not straight line tires and don't hook >600rwhp. Width is FAR overrated.
NT01 is a road race tire, not a straight line tire.
Just about no one runs "slicks" on a vette. They don't even over 18" drag slicks, just road race ones.
R888s are ok, but noisey, don't last long, but can hook ~600rwhp. For your power level you probably want a ET street SS or NT05R.
NT05 and NT05R are two completely different tires. One is a drag radial, the other is a performance radial. Not even comparable tires.

The 275s, 305s and 325s I've ran all hooked WAY better than 345s and all have the same or more rubber on the ground.
I'd read up on tires on the FI section. Much discussion...

I just picked up a set of Mickey Thompson et streets 275/40/17 on some aftermarket C6 Z06 rep wheels 17x9.5 I think. I'm going to try them out in a couple weeks at the track.
As for the widebody, go OEM. I did the RPI prepainted and regret it. Fitment is not that great. Holes all need to be drilled or dremmiled out. Paint had runs and drips in it. Poor quality.

the 275 or 295x17 on cars that make 650+rwhp will both get you in the 9's with a 1.45 60ft or better on a narrow body.I have the 305's to try next.you wont need the wide body

Ok cool, I'm gonna try the 305s I believe here soon, which do you like best so far
You probably won't like this, but my opinion is that you should not be street-racing a 700 rwhp car. I know...almost all of us have done it, but you "street race a lot". It is only a matter of time before you kill yourself, or someone else.
Enough of the sermon...I don't think wider will do you much good, even with a wide body. Taller tires are possibly going to be better for you. Once size taller increases your footprint more than one size wider. It will also give you a slightly lower (numerically) rear end ratio, which will reduce your spin off the line, and increase your top end a bit.
I still hope that you think about it a bit, and take your really serious racing to the track.
