I recently sold my 08 Convertible and started looking for a replacement.
I sold mine because my bad back could not tolerate shifting so I started looking for a Automatic!
I found a possible candidate but it is a 3 hour drive to look at it and if I do not like it 3 more hours back home!
I called the used car lot that has the car and found out that it was on consignment. Having consigned a car myself, I know that there is a fee involved. The car was listed for $29,900. I offered $28,000 and was told that the owner would not go any lower than $29,000. They then told me that He wanted $32,995 and after getting no action reduced it to $29,995. They say the owner feels that He has already given up $3,000? I told them that it was overpriced to start with!
I looked up the car on KBB they state private party Very Good $27,666. I looked the car up on Black Book, they say Trade in top price $22,782. I let the Dealer know what numbers I have, and He said that His numbers are from Black Book but they only show 1 corvette at auction! 7 found within 150 miles HIGH 55,000 AVG $33,282 LOW $24,988. Another col lists RETAIL CLEAN $34,278 AVG $28,525 ROUGH $21,825.
I have more numbers than I can process but I have to question that His numbers reflect a 2009 Base selling for $55,000 not hardly!
To make a long story short, you can make numbers say what you want!
They have had the car for many weeks and the more tire kickers that drive it will only lower the cost!
It is too bad that I cannot deal with the owner, my offer would fit if He did not have to pay a commission?
I understand your frustration. It's October and...at least here in the mid-Atlantic....the end of Corvette season. People are still trying to sell for May 1st money.

So basically, you found the car you want, it's 3 hours away (so clearly you're fairly picky), and you're going to lose it because a grand is a deal breaker for you, based off some numbers you saw on the internet?
kbb and stuff aren't that accurate for cars like Corvettes . These are cars that are sold because of a desire, not a need, so the prices are less based on formulas that kbb and others rely on.
Here's my advice, in the grand scheme of things, 1000$ isn't worth losing the car you want.
If you like the car, why agonize over $1000? If it's not worth it, move on. People can charge whatever they want, whether they find a buyer isn't your concern.

You missed my point! I just sold my 08 and I know the market! Would you agree to buy a car sight unseen and have to spend about 7 hours of your life in the process?
I have had 14 Corvettes and some were a desire others were my daily driver. I drove a 85 to work every day for 12 years.

I would be on to the next one. You aren't comfortable with their price. You are taking a gamble that when you see it and drive it the price will seem worth it. It might...but it might not. I just had a similar experience with a car that was an hour away from me. That ride home seemed really long. I can't imagine what a three hour ride home after a disappointing car buying experience might be like. Just my $0.02.
Funny, I just got a letter today from the dealer I bought mine from telling me "It's been 90 days since you bought your Corvette....buy our extended warranty plan."
But, this car was the end of a 4 month search for "THE" right car for me. It took that long to find the exterior/interior color I wanted. It was 297 miles away from me. I was able to get 1k off the sale price....
Oh!!!! And not to mention, the extra hassle of buying an out of state car (I live in Mo.). But, it was/is the car I wanted! I loved the 5hr. ride home, to get acclimated to my new Vette. Just go get it, man!!

I love cars...especially Vettes. I love talking about the ones I've had, the one I have and the one I want to get. I love sharing my perspective and hearing the perspective of others. I have learned a ton from this forum.
OP, post a new thread whenever you believe that you have an idea or experience that would benefit from discussion and debate. If you are tired of similar threads, you really don't have to click on them.
If you are not comfortable with the 3 hr drive to look at it then it does not matter how much money they want.
Time to move on and find one closer.
I agree, it sounds like the issue is that it's too far away.
To me, if it's a little expensive but it's what I want, I'd buy it. If you're not comfortable with driving for 3 hours to look at a car and leaving without the car, then I'd suggest refining your area to however far away you are willing to drive to and drive back without a car.

You nailed it!!!
I call it buying a pig in a poke! Hell, the picture of the car might have been taken 2 or 3 years ago!
