I always wedge a 3x5 card in a U up there so if it drops, it hits the card and falls towards you

That is a very good idea. I stuff a small cloth rag or paper towel in to collect the screw if it falls. So much better than "betting the odds".

Just in case the bulb does not work here are the directions to get to the ballast without removing the headlight from the fender

You can remove the bottom front plastic piece that the outer air dam is mounted to. Look up to where the headlight is bolted to the fender and you will see the ballast

You'll want to remove the front wheel and the rubber access panel at the front of the fender inner panel to give you a lot of extra room.

The hex screw is 7mm that holds the ballast to the housing.

Use a flat screwdriver to gently pry the 2 plugs from the ballast and replace.

i would change the bulb first ... chances are good it's the bulb

if that don't work i would chance buying a ballast from EBAY or any corvette recycle yard before paying those prices

Well Dave: It might be the 'Igniter' which is the sliver piece that the bulb is mounted on?...Today it still flickers on and off when i turn my lights on and off.

what makes u think its the igniter and not just the bulb ?

Can't you just buy a bulb from Auto Zone or O Riley auto parts , I never had to buy one but always assumed I could ....

Dino's corvettes in Louisiana has a lot of corvette parts , there is also another guy with a user name of FPARTS on EBay, I have bought from both of them with great results ...

The bulb is mounted on a silver piece which is the Igniter which fires the gas (I Guess)...Bottom line it comes as one unit..Rock Auto has good picture of them..The high beam is only about $9 bucks because it's not HID.

Far more likely it is the bulb and not the ballast. I've purchased the HID bulbs from the Asian suppliers on Ebay for as little as $30 a pair. They have held up as well as the expensive ones. 4300K is the factory range, I like the 6000K which is whiter. After that they get bluer. Should replace in pairs regardless, but if you want to stick with factory then 4300K

On the Ballasts, here too, just shop Ebay for used ones (takeouts). They are in the range of $50 to $80. I just sold an extra one I had on Ebay for $70. I've not had a ballast go bad with the last 6 cars using HIDs. A few bulbs though.

Both of my low beams were working on and off last week and I called Chevy to see if I had any open recalls. Turns out that it did have a recall and I got it fixed for free. The service guy didn't really know what he was talking about so he didn't exactly tell me what was replaced but from reading the forum, I believe its the fuse box gets replaced due to overheating.
