Default driver door button issues?

I have some weird issues going on with with my drivers door button. it seems to work intermittently. the window also doesn't allways go all the way back up. according to the previous owner the window regulator as recently replaced. I have tried "indexing" the window by holding up the window switch for 5-6 seconds then letting go and doing it again.

basically I push the button, but it doesn't work but the little light blinks on the door when I push it, and I have to just use the manual open. any ideas? it seems to allways work from outside. sometimes it happens other times it works fine.. strange.

You may have the auto lock feature turned on. You don't hear it happen like a normal style lock. The light flashes to indicate that the door is locked on my car. If you press the unlock button first it should work every time then.

Also to add to the indexing of the windows.. There is no need to hold the switch for so long. You simply lower the window to minimum. Raise the window and hold it for 3 seconds once it reaches maximum upward movement. Then releases and hold for 3 seconds again. Holding any longer won't change the process.

Try resetting the window indexing by using the procedure that's in the owner's manual. It's been posted here on the forum. Here's a link to that thread:

I don't think you even need to hold it for 3 seconds. When the window reaches full up and you hold the switch, you can hear the click-click of the mechanism indexing at which point you let go. At least on my car, that's within 1 second of reaching full up. Then, go all the way down and the same click-click is heard right after reaching full down. No more than 1 second. On my car, anyway.

But that's not the way the OP was doing it.

When all else fails, use what GM says.

Did I say your way was wrong? All I did was suggest that he try the owner's manual way SINCE HIS OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T WORK.

Don't get upset just because I did what you did - suggested something other than what he was already doing that didn't work.

If the door button works sporadically, I think that button goes bad and they are fairly easy to replace from what I've read on here. Someone should be able to help you with that.

Does the button work on your passenger door work??...If so you have the same problem that i have on my 2008..I have to open my hatch and pull the cable to open my door and use the manual lever to get out..I have new door pads but my passenger door works every time.I'm 99% sure the problem is the latch in the door jam...Good Luck

it allways works from the outside, but not the inside, but the light blinks when I am inside the car and push the button. that makes me think that the button isnt bad, and the latch is working because it allways works from the outside.

if i push unlock button nothing changes however. its really weird.

Try taking off the door handle 2 screws then take the handle apart another couple of screws, clean the contacts surface with some light steel wool, then clean with either contact cleaner or alchohol, it's a really easy procedure put it back together and see if that solves your problem, and yes i know you can buy new ones reasonably cheap around $15.00 each, but this will work also. Did mine a year and a half ago and still working flawlessly.

I got from your post that the outside worked most of the time, but sometimes not, anyway I've cleaned my outside about twice during the years but two weeks ago i put a new one on and for about two weeks the outside and the inside worked fine but this week neither worksDo this: Push the inside open button and put your ear close to the latch in the door jam,if you hear a click then the button is sending a signal there to release the latch. That button is very easy to pop out and clean the connectors but it did not help my.

This pulls the button out of the door.

Button in hand, pull it apart to clean it, and note that is has two contact points that jumps across 4 pads on the board. With that problems your having, back that one set of points has a corrosion problem. Hence contact cleaner and a q-tip to get the rubber and boad points clean again.

If the paint is flaking off the button, we have a way to fix that problem as well.

Also, before you plug the button connector back in before you put the button back in the door, give the wire connector good a shot of contact cleaner as well.

Once you have the interior buttons clean and still have a lot of contact cleaner left over, not a bad idea to clean the door pull pads, the the rear hatch release button above the license plate, and maybe even the main tail light connector when you are in the rear fender cover as well. Hell, take it the extra step to pull the tail light bulbs, and even the front turn light bulbs to clean and re-dielectric grease the sockets as well. It does not take much to do the bulb sockets, and will save you down the road from the bulb sockets melting up instead.
