Well, we had a "lets see all your cars" thread, so now we know there are some old men here, and some young ones. We havent had an age thread in a while so here's one now. Be honest. How old are you?
That bothers and scares me a lot. Many Teen ages, even those on college campuses, have no clue about any of the wars, conflicts, presidents or American History in general. Pretty sad.
Very true.
Something I've noticed the past few years, here and there on the web (not on CF) is this trashing of "Baby Boomers" by younger generations.
They say we are selfish, have ruined the world, etc. and it angers me to the point of wanting to punch one of these kids. No "generation" ruins or otherwise changes the world. People do. Whatever generation they happen to fall into is not of their doing.
Every generation has evil people and good people. No generation is all good or all bad.
I've been working at the same thing for 49 years, no desire to retire yet, have lived below my means all my life and saved the difference -- and I ruined the world?
Come at me, you stupid millennials and X-ers. You don't know **** yet because you're too young, and are still living with Mommy. So how do you like being thrown into one camp?

Um looks like the trolls got to this one. Also not to be mean, but you should retire as soon as you comfortably can do so, no point in working yourself to death. You have worked hard enough in your life, you earned your retirement, take it. I've lost three co workers who were past the retirement age this year, who never got to retire and enjoy life because they couldn't let go of work.
Now on to the post question. I am 30 years old, which would make me one of those darn millennials that the older generations complain about.

Why should I retire because some kid thinks I should? I enjoy what I do and will continue until I am physically unable or until it stops being fun.
I've already been where you are, but you have yet to be where I am.

I didn't mean any disrespect, I was just providing you with some of what I had learned from my life experiences from people I worked with looked up to and learned from who were your age or older and are no longer around and some who still are.
You shouldn't be so quick to dismiss some thing because of one's age. We can always continue to learn from anyone of any age because we all have unique life experiences and unique talents. You also never know what knowledge one carries that has been passed down through generations. I learn much from those older than me as I'm sure many younger folks learn from you. If they passed knowledge along from you to someone older than them should that person immediately dismiss that knowledge?
However from the sound of your post I expect your job may well be how you would choose to spend your retirement anyways so my thoughts on retirement may not be applicable.

Bruze, Cooter Tech was referring to HEB's post, who like myself are not "Baby Boomers". The unofficial "official" dates are 1946 thru 1964. I'm from the "Silent" generation (1925-1945), but being the first of 3 kids and only slightly before Pearl Harbor, I tend to lean a little toward the Boomers. In fact, I have no friends who are older than 78, but lots that are younger.
62 here. I retired once. It was kinda boring and I put 40 pounds on. Went back to work in 2010 and love my job. My career field was that of A&P mechanic for an airline, now I work at an auto parts store where I get to meet and help people daily, and I don't have to worry about something falling out of the sky when I'm trying to sleep. So as they say different strokes for different folks, and ya I love my Corvette. Mike
