If the column lock is acting up, will the engine fail to crank/start. Car would not start yesterday. Battery fine, worked the clutch several times in case it was clutch switch. Finally disconnected battery for a minute or so and car started. On the C-5 we had the steering wheel was locked but the engine started when it failed. I guess if it happens again I will try to turn the steering wheel to see if it's locked.

Mine is currently giving me a little trouble as well. I intend to get a good look at all the battery connections as I think it is more likely the issue rather than the column lock. Some of the grounding areas can crack and cause intermittent starting issue.
This isn't to say your column lock isn't on its way out but just something else to take a look at.
