Default Garage trophy

Some of my friends have razzed me about buying a garage trophy or yard art when I bought my Corvette. I have to admit that when I was looking for a Vette and would see a 10 yo Corvette with 20k miles I had to ask why. Was it indeed just a garage trophy?

Having had my car a month now I understand. It is my second car not my daily driver. While it is fun to drive it is not as comfortable, nor as easy to get in/out of an my Raptor. I also don’t like to drive it in bad weather, snow, ice, salty roads and such. So I can see it being a low mileage car.

Anyway, garage trophy or not, I love it! I think driving it every day it would loose some of the excitement....like having sex every day. OK, maybe not such a good analogy.

Yup, mine is just a summertime, fair-weather toy. Nothing unusual about that, although there are people here who have a problem with it for some reason.

Enjoy it when you want to. I put less than 100 miles on my special occasion 2013 GS last year and I live in Florida. My 2017 Ram R/T sport truck kind of gets in the way. Fun no matter which one I choose.

Before I retired I drove it to work every day. Avoided heavy rain because I didn't want some jackass sliding into me, not because I couldn't bear to get her wet. Now that I'm retired I put a lot more miles on her.....because I can.
I'm at 40+ but that's still not bad for a 2011 which is driven.

It's an impractical toy and I can drive it however I want. Why would I risk dealing with walmartians when I have a daily driver for that.

I don't even drive mine on clear calm sunny days anymore. Crazy thing, I still want another vette. It's like fishing, gotta have more than one fishing pole.

I’ve wanted a Vette since I was a little kid & it’s always been my favorite car. I’ve owned lots of fast & cool cars over the years (23 of them) & put a lot of miles on them. My wife is surprised I don’t drive my Vette more, but in the 2 months since I bought it I’ve put exactly 1,000 miles on it (450 of those being a one day down & back work trip). Probably because it is our third car & I don’t want any scratches or dings or chips on it is why I don’t drive it as much. But the kids like being dropped off/picked up from school in it & there are some weekends where I don’t have to run all the kids around to their various activities or work on projects around the house, so it’ll get some miles eventually.

Drive it when and how you want. It's yours to do as you wish.

My second Vette was bought to be a weekend toy. When I traded it in on a 05 it became my DD. Now on my 3rd C6, an 07 with just under 196,000 miles ( gotta love Tx weather).

My 2013 GS has 7000 miles on it. "It is what it is" which is a garage queen, summer, weekend toy.

That said, my wife jokes that driving the Corvette for me is like planning a first date with a woman . . . . . I need to know exactly where I'm going, the exact route and road conditions, the parking situation and even the weather. It's then that I ask her if she has any single friends who might actually go out with me.

I bought my 2011 GS Auto Vert in 2013, it had 13, 950 on it and it now has 14, 213.
I have put gas in the tank I think 3 times, drove it 6 times and washed it 2 times, oh and have put 3 batteries in it due to loosing power to the tender a couple of times.
I am never home due to work and do not get a chance to drive it much, would I get rid of it? in one word NO, it is my 6th Vette and the best one.
Yes, people think I am nuts.

Mine had 28.7k when I bought it, and has 42.5k now. It's a weekend car, but I drive it every chance I get, even on long trips.

No, not a good analogy a'tall.

It is my only car and thus not at all a garage queen. However, I do have a daily commute of only 6 miles round-trip so my car does not put on many miles a year at all. And I drive it in any weather though, here in Southern California, it never snows so I don't have to worry about that.

But mine is definitely a daily driver.

You are 100% accurate in your assessment of driving every it every day causing some loss of excitement. If I drove mine every day it wouldn't necessarily make it seem like just any old car, but it would definitely take some of that WOW factor out of it. It's human nature. We do things too often and they lose some of their luster. Thats why while I can't say that I like having to store mine during winter weather, it sure does make driving it for the first time every Spring a wonerful thing !!!!......

“Boys and their toys”. “Midlife crisis” etc. I heard these and a few others. Enjoy your Corvette, OP. You’ve earned it. I retired almost 6 years ago at 46 and bought my first Corvette a year into retirement. Now I’m driving my second Corvette and getting ready to head out for lunch with my better half. She’s a garage trophy too ( the car).

I've had 10 Corvettes. Most of them were daily drivers. The Z06 is a toy. I have a 2014 Silverado LTZ for a daily. I have been retired almost 6 years now, so I drive whatever I want, when I want to, and where I want to, but, I don't start out the in Z in inclement weather. Not to say I won't drive it in the rain, but I won't leave the house in it if its raining..or snow. But I've been caught in the rain and snow several times. It cleans up.

BTW, it has almost 60k on it now. 2006.

I am confused, how in Gods name does a Ram pickup truck get in the way of a Corvette in Florida? I am asking because I also own a pickup & there is really no comparison...Lol
