HELP can't get my car out of neutral
Went to start my 2007 base conv. car, so I can use it tomorrow. Started up, but it is stuck in neutral. Worked fine when I parked it less than 3 weeks ago. Help what's the problem...
Went out and started it off an on a few times. Started to work correctly... What causes this??

Type of transmission would be helpful.

If an auto, likely the shift cable is hanging up or the lock out switch is the culprit. Search forum for conversations on this issue as it’s been around for a long time.

Manual issue could be with clutch cylinders or a linkage problem. Can you shift gears with the car running and clutch depressed? Does the clutch feel normal or is it harder/softer than normal? Check the fluid reservoir and make sure it is full. There was a tsb on the clutch master cylinder but your car may not covered after 10 years.

A little more info might help.
With the engine shut off does the stick move through the gears?
Is the clutch pedal on the floor?
With the engine running and the clutch depressed does the stick move through the gears?
With the engine running and the stick in the first gear position is it in neutral when you let out the clutch?

Typically when a manual car is stuck in neutral, its because the clutch can't fully disengage from the flywheel. This can happen for a few reasons. The most common is a lack of hydraulic fluid in the reservoir allowing the piston to suck in air. But it could also be because of a leak elsewhere allowing air in. As well a bad shift linkage could simulate this problem. If you can pump the clutch a few times and then get it into gear, it indicates that there is air in the lines. Since the system is meant to be contained, that could indicate that theres a leak somewhere; hopefully somewhere easy to access.
