Default Chips in windshield

Finally out for an early morning drive over the weekend. Driving east into blinding sun glare. I noticed a lot of small chips in the windshield that , obviously are only evident in these particular driving conditions. Anyone else notice these chips? Car is an 11 GS with under 10k miles.

Under certain circumstances the windshield on my 2006 looks like it did battle with a sand storm and lost.

I have noticed the same thing on my
cars. Windshield safety glass is actually a soft material and will chip and scratch fairly easy. Unfortunately there is no fix, must be replaced.

Same with my 05 only had 2 days and bang bang bang three chips from cars on interstate.
Seems newer vehicles 2000 on chip very easy. 02 tundra and 10 Corolla have been easy chipped. Just passed on a 1993 Camry 263k with original windshield 2 chips in it.

Chips in the windshield? big deal, I have several, Corvettes are low, chips happen. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. IMO

I have a 2010GS and am replacing my windshield in a few weeks. There are so many little micro chips in the windshield that it lights up from the reflection of sunlight early and late in the day as well as night driving from headlights. Drives me crazy.

Mine looked like that when I first got my car. Then one of those chips turned into a big crack and my insurance replaced it. The difference in clarity was huge.

Got same problem on my 11 GS. replacing is the only answer I’m afraid. Probably very expensive! Anyone have an idea how much it will cost?

At highway speeds, your car is constantly bombarded by sand. Essentially, the entire front end of your car is being sand-blasted. You can't get away from it, because the highway shoulders are usually sand and gravel. Transport trucks are the worst for stirring it up and having it blow into the live lanes. And in the northern areas, the DOT dumps huge amounts of sand and salt onto the roads during the winter. Lots of that lingers well into the spring, even on paved shoulder areas. I've had to replace several windshields in other cars because of this, and I've seen numerous other cars with most of the paint blasted off their front bumpers. Maybe Scotty can spare some power from his precious engines, and put more into the forward shields.

Yep, They are defiantly a chip magnet. Just over 6000 miles on my 13 and when the lighting is just right I notice quite a few little pits/chips in the windshield. I brought up this same issue in a post a year or so ago. Other than just not driving them (and we all know that's not likely) the chip thing is pretty much unavoidable.

My local Chevrolet dealer has a contract with an auto glass installer to replace all windshields for a flat rate of $299. That included a HUD-rated windshield for my Red a couple of years ago. No muss. No fuss. No more rock chips.

Sounds like a good price.

The windshield in my '05 is pretty well blasted and has a crack big enough that insurance is going to replace it. Seems strange the body and paint are pretty pristine but the front glass seems to have taken a beating over the years. I am wondering should I go with OEM glass or is there something better (more durable) out there? Yes, I do have HUD too.

glass polish, even light application of scratch remover will help. It obviously won't get rid of deep scratches or chips, but it will get rid of film and light scratches.

I wonder if anyone has experience with this McKee 37 glass restore kit?

A glass polish will only remove build up of things like RainX, grease, oil, sealers or wax. The only scratches it may remove is extremely fine hologram type scratching. Pitting and scratching are unfortunately not repairable. I know from personal experience.

Nothing will remove pits or scratches....

Glass is not soft ... Fats is correct , it's constantly getting sandblasted as u drive down the highway

$299 deal ..... I would question the quality of that glass part ....not a shot is it OEM or OE ( APTECH ) and the brand of urethane that was used to install .....

Yeah sure i get the whole sand blasted thing but windshield was bad by 28k miles.
Every other car I've had which have had 50k more miles on them never had this issue. Just saying.

Insurance paid for mine, but from what I saw on the invoice Safelite was billing about $1k for the job.
