Thanks for the reminder. I start a 2K trip on Tuesday. I went to dealer and got AC Delco fluid and did the change out after I did the obligatory wash today. Umm, it was due.

New to me, and first C6, arrives Tuesday. I have 4 fender covers, 12 old bath towels, one syringe and one bottle of new DOT 4 synthetic brake fluid ready!

Truth be told, I've done my C5 numerous times!

I use my wife's turkey baster.

Not to worry. After use, I clean it thoroughly with brake cleaner.

Actually there is a lot of variation in brake fluid but i have to assume the clutch is less sensitive to fluid properties since the line pressure is less and the temps probably not as high. At least I've never heard of anyone boiling their clutch fluid but it can be a problem if you are using the brakes really hard.

Here is a great link for brake fluid properties:

I'd like to see some data on that. Overheating and boiling brake fluid is not unheard of on a track, I've never heard of anyone boiling clutch fluid, even drag racing.

Like gallup, when at the track, have never seen of heard of anyone boiling clutch fluid.

Boiling brake fluid in the brake system is, however, common.

DOT4 has a higher boiling point.

If I recall correctly, the hydraulic clutch plumbing runs very close to the exhaust manifold, thus the heat source. I have heard of clutch lines bursting, especially with headers. GM specifies the high-temp DOT 4 for this reason.

When I flew to Detroit to check out my Grand Sport, I checked the clutch fluid. Not only was it very dark, it was low. I told the salesman I wouldn't drive it until we fixed the situation. We had to go to an auto parts store to get the DOT4.

Eh, I'd rather be a noob than a mental midget. Being relatively new to something is not necessarily a bad thing but to each their own. It's just a shame this thread keeps getting bumped. You are the reason corvette owners get a bad name.
