I've had mine off for almost 4 years. At least 3 of those years i had a supercharger that produced a LOT of heat in the engine bay.

Recently removed supercharger. The hood hasn't changed color at all and I've noticed no ill-effects from removing the hood liner. I've also read that it is supposed to protect the engine or something if it catches on fire. I'm of the opinion that if the engine bay catches fire, there are worse problems I'll be facing than not having the hood liner.

I dunno, everyone does what they want. Just saying I have noticed no difference, other than being able to hear the engine better..which is why I removed it.

Default Update on obsolete hood liner for all ‘06 base coupe.

Fortunately a great member of Corvette Forum has one for me and we are working out the details now. Interestingly, the only website (which I mentioned earlier in a post) which got the blank OEM liners from a source but then made their own high temperature liner to cover it which they custom embossed with German thread for you, has only one blank left, so their source has also dried up. They told me none were available any longer to them in the United States and Canada. I can’t thank everyone enough for all of your input.

I hear you there. Nothing sounds better than our Corvette engines! Especially under full throttle :-). I’ll probably still install the one I was able to find out in Iowa from another Forum member. Thanks a lot

I was wondering if the only difference in the newer liner was the cut out for the light? If so, you get the 2007 liner and make the cut out yourself. I actually considered buying the light kit and installing it. Maybe the liner is completely different in some way. Just wondering and understand that the op has already found one.

GM needs to get their *** in gear, because not having parts for a car that is about 10 years old is not right. Even if they have to make them "on demand" or something

Thanks. Yeah, I looked at some 07’s online and couldn’t exactly figure out whether the configuration was exactly the same or not. That would’ve been a last resort if I wasn’t able to come up with something on Corvette Forum. Just wanted it to fit perfectly and look right for me.

Default Hood liner Obsolete – I hear you there!

I said that more than once over the last few days phileaglesfan! What may very well happen hopefully if someone out there sees this discussion, is find a way to make them for 05 and 06 then get them endorsed by GM so they can sell them online to folks like us. I spoke to a couple of people inside of GM, and they explained that they make up enough parts when a model goes out of production to last a certain amount of years and they expect the aftermarket companies to make them and get them endorsed by GM and keep up with demand. I guess I just don’t know what goes on inside of a big corporate America sometimes. You see brand new OEM parts being sold that are not aftermarket for other even earlier years of Corvettes and then you run into something like this. Who knows. It’s funny though that you can still get hood insulator pads for just about any year before 05/06 though. I mean, guys like to buy a new hood liner if they keep their Vette for a long time, every several years or so to keep them lookin’ real nice. Mice get to em and they can get soily and pick up debris. Hey thanks a lot.

The aftermarket parts have to be endorsed by GM or they are not supposed to be sold.

Not true at all. You would need permission to call it a GM or Chevy part but you can reproduce a part and sell it without permission. In fact, Chevy could put out a replica of a 1964 Ford Mustang and be fine as long as they don't market it as a Ford or Mustang.

Default That’s right on “GM” parts

Thanks for bringing that up. That is the way it was explained to me by a number of large Corvette parts website/companies. Hopefully someone will make the hood liners for 05 and 06 as I know a couple other guys who are looking.

Did you guys check the big companies? Corvette mods, ecklers, I'm seeing them for 2005 and 2006s between $80 and $100.00

Default Obsolete Hood Liner

Yes I have, each one of them, and more. Just went back on Eckler’s and Corvettemods for about the fourth time including calling them, and there is not one available. They have clips, badges, emblems that go on the OEM hood liner including some websites the Z51/Z06 logo, but not a base coupe hood pad liner.

Default Hood liner and mice!

Boy what a pain! Lousy little critters get into the worst places. Best thing to do if you want to replace yours is post that you need it in the parts wanted area and put up a quick note under General Discussion. (you may have already tried this though). I got terrific feedback from Forum members and located one out west!
