Default Aluminum Tunnel Plate

Anyone install the aluminum ceramic coated fiberglass wrapped tunnel plate?

How was the reduction in console heat?

I added one that was jet-hot coated. Made a huge difference with the tunnel heat. Look below for pictures and description

I have an Elite tunnel plate that I installed about ten years ago on my C-6. No noise reduction but the heat from the exhaust is a not issue in the center console now. It also stopped the top panel creaking as an added bonus.

I also have the Elite Engineering ceramic coated tunnel plate with the insulating blanket. Been on my car since '07.

It provides a significant reduction in heat in the center console for a relatively inexpensive cost.

Very worthwhile mod/upgrade IMO.

While I didn't put the upgraded tunnel plate on, I did install the DEI self-sticking tunnel plane insulating panel on it when I installed headers & X-pipe... made a huge difference inside the car, console is cool to the touch, & for under $70 & easy to install while the x-pipe was off...

It will eventually heat soak and be just as hot as before, these insulated tunnel plates only delay the inevitable. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't.

I installed the same $300 tunnel plate on my 2011 GS when I had the Pfadt headers and x-pipe installed 4 years ago.

If you ever plan on installing headers, that's the time to install the tunnel plate ..... easy easy job with the exhaust out of the car.

I installed the ceramic coated with thermo blanket one on my 2006 coupe about 7 years ago and agree with what Uncle Meat said in his first sentence about the heat soak issue. In my case it had the added benefit of tightening up the body which eliminated most of the creaking and most of the top popping noise. So in a nut shell am I pleased with the amount of heat reduction? No but, if you add in the big reduction in body flex that eliminated almost all of the creaking and popping then the answer would be yes.
Overall I'm satisfied and would do again.

I put on the 1/4" TPS plate with the thermal blanket on it and eventually it gets about as hot as before. I did feel the chassis to be a little tighter. Got a good deal on the plate, but honestly for the small improvement I don't really feel it's worth it.

Do the stock fasteners work with the thicker plates?

I installed the Z-Cool insulation blanket when I did headers and it works, I don't know what others are talking about with heat soak theory but my tunnel is cooler and it stays cooler. That's all I can tell you, its worth every penny, the thicker tunnel plate I know nothing about
Good luck

How did the pfadt headers work out for you? I'm considering pfadt and ARH, price seems about the same. The tunnel plate is also planned.

Never had a problem with the Pfadt headers .... I bought them because of the quality ... Also liked the way the header collectors attached to the intermediate pipes (x-pipe) ... They use flanged stainless pipes and v-band clamps (aircraft style)

Maybe... I installed the Elite Engineering 1/4" tunnel plate w/Thermal Abs and about 1/3rd of the stock fasteners were not long enough to engage the threads. I did a whole big post on trying to reduce the heat inside my Z06. You can read it here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-testing.html

Without a doubt, the finest welding I've ever seen on headers. If by chance that's robotic, I'd be just as impressed by the fixture. I've spent many years in hi-tech aerospace mfg and that's as good as it gets.

Hoxxoh, I've wanted to order a set for a long time, but this one weekend a month schedule at home makes it nearly impossible!

Stock bolts will work just fine with the 1/4" thick plates. I believe Elite Engineering offers a thicker plate (5/16" or 3/8" don't remember which) that requires longer bolts.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the stock bolts? Maybe I’ll get a set of slightly longer ones to have on hand just in case.
