Jeez the choir is strong here.
10 year old car.
Depreciation book, at 5 yrs is 50% of MSRP.
Tire age, problem is many repair shops won't fix a flat on an old tire, in addition to the rubber hardening.
Head/ values, big gamble.
Cooksey edition, just appearance package, if you like it great, but added value?
I too could agree in addition to purchase price to have $10K set aside to bring the car up to "snuff".
So, how much does on be want to be "in" dollars into this Vette?
FWIW MY two cent comment, I would not want to be into this car more than $30K.
Good luck to the OP.

[QUOTE=FAUEE;1598195481]People o here make a big deal about the age of tires, and its TOTALLY overblown. I drove tires with a date code from like 2005 on the track (Carolina motorsports park). They weren't dangerous or liable to explode, they just had less grip. That was actually the best part about the car, it didnt have a ton of grip and was a LOT of fun. I would have no issue with running through OEM tires on that car until they were worse out, age or not.
So your suggesting that it is OK to run 10 year old tires on a track. What a joke. I am sure some tracks would not even allow you on the track if they had safety inspection. But I guess you could go to Bubba's track and he would be fine. GEEZ
Don't encourage others to make bad decisions. 10 year old tires are dangerous particularly on track. If you are parade cruising maybe but never on Track.
I would move on from this purchase as you are not dealing with the owner and the seller does not understand the market and what this vehicle requires.

I have no experience with z06 original tires but I bought 2 cars with original older tires. One was a turbo rx7 the other was a JCW Mini cooper s, a 2004 model and it had 13k miles, bought it last year. The mini, which is generally an amazing handling car, was barely driveable in wet weather. Lost traction in 1st and 2nd, and had a hard time turning, it wanted to basically go straight and it felt like I was driving on bricks. Once I swapped the tires the difference was incredible, day and night.
Personally I would think a z06 would be flat out dangerous in wet weather with original rubber, not worth the risk.

What exactly do you think is so dangerous about them? I'm curious. That they have less grip? Lots of tires have less grip, that doesnt make them dangerous. So let's hear exactly WHY these tires are so dangerous, and that a car with tires that are a bit older can barely be driven?

At 10 years, if I were to buy the car, the FIRST thing I would do is get new tires, for safety and peace of mind. All this is based not on internet googling but my personal experience with cars I owned.

I think the only 427 special editions were the Cooksey editiion and they only sold 427 in the U.S. It is that crystal red metallic color and has a black hood/racing stripe and a few other special things. All were autographed by Wil Cooksey. All things being equal between it and another 08 Z06 it will bring more money, except for those who aren’t into that kind of thing. The buyer can wait if he wants Cooksey money or sell now for the price of a regular Z06.

The Goodyears are not great tires period. That's not age related, the gen1s just suck. The gen2s aren't great, but they are better. I get wanting to get rid of them, because they suck, but that's a personal choice, not a true NEED.
