Default Red Striped Wheels?

When buying my 2012 GS CE coupe last year I almost bought a 2012 Z06 CE coupe w/ carbon brakes and black cup wheels that had the red stripe on the outer rim lip. I love that look with the red stripe and want to duplicate it on new wheels for my GS. Can someone who knows please tell me how wide that stripe actually is?

Tom, I just went out with my flashlight and tape measure, and got exactly 1/4". Yes, the stripe is quite an accent. I have been stopped by knowledgeable Vette owners who wanted to know where they could get the stripe ;put on their wheels., which they thought was a custom touch.

Didn't your CE come with the black, rec-striped wheels? It was part of the package. Of course, you could pay extra to have other wheels installed, but I never understood buying the package if you change the wheels. Just my opinion, though.

Hey Buck, thanks for your reply and answering my question! Much appreciated!
My Vette came with the standard 18" front & 19" rear matte black CE wheels w/o stripes. I purchased 19" & 20" black wheels sometime back, but really want that red pin stripe on them before mounting a new set of Michelin Pilot 4Ss.

ISFAIK the Red and/or Silver Stripes on Cup Wheels is in a Machined Recessed Grooved area.....

The Factory reproduction Cup Wheels DO NOT include this grooved recess...

How is anybody doing this recess groove without ruining the powder coat finish ??

Please post pics ?????

I remember reading a long time ago that the black GS wheels never were available with the red stripe because of how the spokes were designed into the wheels ... no flat lip for the stripe to be applied to

Also ...rim protectors.. there are ones that hook over the rim and sit in place with an adhesive. They are better than the ones that glue onto the rim.

The cup wheels were only available on the Z06 or ZR-1. Here is a picture from the 2012 sales brochure with the red stripe.

One more pic.

Edit: according to the sales brochure, the cup wheels with the red stripe came standard with the Centennial Special Edition on the Z06 and ZR-1 only.

My base CE came with chrome wheels (only 13 of 172 had the chrome wheels). I was lucky enough to find a full set of the factory black wheels and will be putting them on in the spring.

I recall reading somewhere that the 2012 red stripe wheels were first painted red, then black and the stripe is a groove machined through the black to expose the red below. Probably clear coated over everything.

Having looked at my Centennial Cup wheels I'm not sure that's the case. It looks like the red stripe is added after the black paint. In any case they are great looking wheels
