If your mind (or gas cap) is loose, be sure to tighten them.

I can get caught in the same trap as I tend to fret about stuff a bit. In fact I read the above and thought "cable! what cable, holy smokes" However the answer here is pretty simple imho. Do your PMs on the car and your due diligence , then compartmentalize the failure aspect as stuff happens and we have little control over it. Just relax and have fun. However, if owning the car causes you more anxiety then pleasure, sell it. There are plenty of stress free hobbies out there. I love audio and music (for me anyway) reduces stress. Good luck and remember - there is always benzodiazepines!

Somewhat related...when I got my '05 (10K miles) in 2010 we drove it everywhere, Bowling Green, Tennessee, bunch of trips to Carlisle, lots of long trips. Last few years we've taken the GMC on long trips, a little more comfortable, bigger and under warranty just in case. Mrs. and I were planning a 5 day trip up to Lake George recently and I wanted to take the Vette, then the paranoia set in, what if it broke down, too small to pack everything, suppose we hit weather, the truck is newer, bigger, every possible excuse I could think of, real Road Trip Remorse. Anyway, a last minute decision, we took the Vette, it ran GREAT! Plenty of room to pack, FUN to drive, 941 miles and 24.5 MPG (MUCH better then my truck), the WOW factor, did I say FUN to drive. Mrs. even suggested we take it to Florida in January but we'll probably take the truck, too much stuff to pack. Only problem with the Vette, IT GOT DIRTY, DAMN! LOL...anyway, drive that bad boy, anything happens you have a cell phone and worst case if you have OnStar (even if your not subscribed) they'll answer, at least you have options! Good Luck!!

Be glad you don't own a expensive European brand like Benz, BMW, etc. The are often overly complicated and groundbreaking and cost several times more to fix than your vette.

Keep in mind this is a forum where people come to talk about the issues good and bad with their Vettes, And Thanks to this forum and the people associated with it i was able to find the answers on how to fix two of the issues that came up with my car without having to go to the dealer, or a repair shop, years ago you were pretty much on your own.Not all Vette owners will experience all the issues that you read about, and no one car or model is free from mechanical issues, the risk is always there that one day you may be stuck on the side of the road disabled with whatever you drive.

This is so true....if people were as fanatical about their health and body as their car, they would all probable live to be 100.

I'm paranoid about everything and have been all my life.

But a lot of the paranoia about my '07 A6 went away when I had my buddy replace the shift cable, and snap off the locking pawl.

I replaced the HB, shift cable and removed the locking pawl. All as preventive maintenance.
