Keep 07 base, or upgrade to a GS?

Before I bought my base 08 vert 6sp manual, I test drove several newer C6s. I drove, 13 427 60th Anniversary vert, 11 GS vert manual, 09 base coupe Z51 manual. All cars had under 20k miles. The point I'm making, unless you want the wide body car, once you've driven one C6, they're all pretty much the same. The most notable difference was a slight improvement in seat comfort. If this car is used on the street only, the performance difference between these models are negligible, unless of course you get a ZR-1!
Besides, if you're happy with the reliability of the 06, why start all over again with another used C6 that could be not so reliable, low miles or not!

I just went through this for the past yr I have been thinking about a GS convertible. I have had my 09 Z51 for over 3 yrs still had a loan on it so I was looking then I found one that was exactly what I was looking for for 35K so I jumped on it then sold my old one in week. my payment is a $100. more a month no regrets I say if you want it go for it if the right car comes up.
Car dealers, however, love to see this type of thought process walk in the door. They want you buying on the payment, rather than looking at the whole transaction price; most people like that would have the **** scared out of them and would walk away if they saw what it was really costing them.
I delayed buying what I wanted until I was almost to retirement. No, I didn't drive a POS but I drove something sensible that I could easily afford. My main goal was early retirement, which I did on my terms, when I was ready at 57. I am now enjoying that slightly delayed gratification and will be able to do most anything I want.
OP, only you can decide whether it is worth switching. My opinion is keep the 07, pay it off, save some cash, and buy your next one with cash. You have a Corvette with low mileage compared to what the powertrain will typically run before starting to have major issues, so drive it and enjoy it.

His car is worth 22-24(ive looked at LOTS over the past few weeks) and a GS is 31-35k or so... making the delta 10k or so give or take.
And also to the OP, I believe you live in Texas. Remember if you sell private party you lose all of your sales tax offset.

Thanks for the info, I think I'm going to keep the 07.

Yea, but what he owe's is irrelevant IMO. Even though he owe's 15k on the car, doesnt mean its only worth 15k and the GS he wants is 35k thus the 20k price difference he is claiming... That was my only point earlier.

You didn't pay for your 07' yet, so I'm not sure why everyone is expecting you to get a lot of money back from it with a trade in. Sounds like you have only paid about $6k towards your 07' up to this point. So if you recoup $2-3k of your money back in a trade, you are basically just moving on to another car. I'm not telling you to do it or not. It's your money. No one knows your situation as well as you.

And I never said 22-24 is what he would get on trade. I would expect a trade offer on his car of probably 16 or 18k and then they turn around and list it at 22-24k.
And if you trade your GS for 24k you are easily losing out on 8-10k dollars by not selling it privately, again based on the asking prices I was seeing for cars over the past month within 500 miles of Dallas.

Sounds like you already know you would rather have the GS. I would either go ahead and pull the trigger on the GS or keep the '07 and not spend a dime on upgrades or modifications. Then you won't lose your *** when you finally decide to go for the GS. Wait until you have the car you want to keep for the foreseeable future before you spend any more on upgrades.
My 21 year old nephew bought an '09 3LT M6 coupe recently. It was like new, unmolested with only 6K on the ODO and he paid $31K for it (he wanted a wide body at the time, but didn't want to spend the extra cash). He then proceeded to put heads, cam, intake, long tubes, exhaust, basically every bolt on short of power adders. I'm not his financial advisor, but he had it all professionally done so I'm sure he's got another $8-10K in it. He has now decided he has to have a widebody. The dealers he has gotten trade offers from are offering $18K-21K and telling him they are just going to wholesale it because of the modifications. If he's lucky he will only lose $20K on this life experience.
Sorry for the story, but if you want the widebody, get it, either now or when it makes financial sense. Then do your modifications and make it your own. Best of luck!

I did the same exact thing 3 years ago. I had an 07 base 2lt that was bone stock. I sold it on craigslist in 15 minutes, updated to an 11 GS 3lt and got the color and all the options I wanted and never looked back. A C7 is NOT in my future and I'll keep my GS until the state takes my license away because I'm to freaking old to drive.

It’s really up to you buddy, I had a ‘06 Z51 M6 that I really enjoyed, after two years I put it up for sale & was sold in a few days. Two weeks went by I found a GS for sale, made the owner a cash offer & went & picked it up the next day. I find the wide body Vettes much more appealing. I bought both stock looking, have been modifying them myself

Basically everyone should just get what ever they want because they want it. I want a Ferrari, I only live once, if the bank is willing to give me a loan then it must be a good financial decision. I also want to marry Mila Kunis. I don't know how to make that happen, but because I want it, I should be entitled to it.
P.S., You are all invited to the wedding. I just first have to figure out a way to tell my current wife.

Well, just to show what is out there, here's a nice 2011 GS, with 18k miles and a Certified warranty! This one ought to sell fast.

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
I would personally get the GS if that is what you really want. The only Vette I wanted was an Inferno Orange wide-body (either GS, Z06 or ZR1). It had to have black interior & had to be a manual 6-speed (GS). I looked for 2 years before finding one within the price range I wanted to pay, one was a '12 GS 1LT w/29k miles, the other was a '13 GS 2LT with 18k miles. The dealership with the '13 was asking $8k more than the dealership with the '12 & wouldn't budge - I bought the '12 because I knew I was going to be modifying it to my wants & needs, and that extra $8k bought a lot of mods Point being, if you really want a GS, find the one you want
I would recommend the '12-'13 for the upgraded seats.

Some of you guys are nuts! Especially the guy claiming 22-24K on a base with 75K+ miles.
Bought my GS in Texas and drove it back to Connecticut (2010 JSB 2LT with 42k miles & Kooks headers/Borla Exhaust) for 29K out the door (Tax, title, pre-registration). This also came with new tires, battery, and clutch master. Base LS2 with 75K+ miles? Trade in is 12-15K. Private party KBB is 15-17k. You're getting 18K, maybe stretched to 20K private party if it is in mint stock shape/desirable color and you sell it in mid spring.
To the OP:
1. Get what will make you happy. Only you can decide.
2. Finances are different for everyone, and if it doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense.
3. If you've had the car for two years and you're over-paying the loan (75% or more?) then still owing 17K makes no sense (22K @ 5% 60mo = $385 + 75% = $674) $674*24 = $15,720 give or take. Should have 7-12K left?
4.Listen to everyone that says reach for a 2012-2013 if you can. The seats are much better. I'm putting a centennial interior in mine here shortly.
My opinion is that keeping the base is a better short term financial choice, but the Grand Sport C6 tends to hold it's value more in line with the more premium models (50-60% vs 40-50% on the base). So if you plan to keep it for some time, upgrade, otherwise stick with what you have.
