Default Map lights stay on

I have a 2006 convertible. Recently I have an issue with my map lights not turning off. I started the car and the map lights came on, I didn't think much of it but they stayed on for about 10 miles until I reached my destination, and did not turn off when I shut down the car. I tried to click off the map lights with the push buttons on the mirror but no positive results. One of my club members tried to fix it but no real luck and they did finally go off. Anybody out there have this problem and can help me out? Thanks in advance

You inadvertently pushed in the dimmer **** which turns on the map lights and will leave them on until you again push in the dimmer **** to turn them off.

And the lights won't go out immediately, but they will go out when you've got the engine turned off, you get out, and shut the door. Then they'll go out. (Be sure to release the button after you push it in - don't hold it while waiting for the lights to go out.)

I really find it amazing how people have no clue how their car works. Especially when there is a manual in the glove box. Like at Costco getting gas, there are people at the pump for 10 minutes, pushing buttons, putting the gas nozzle in and out of the pump, sliding their cards in and out and generally looking stumped like they never put gas in a car or never used a credit card before.

your knee hit the dimmer switch. Push the switch in once and release it. The lights will time out after a few seconds. Even with a manual this is a frustrating occurance. You are not the first and you wont be the last for this to happen to.

It's even easier to get that needed information if they've got an electronic copy of the owner's manual.

Of course, this section of the forum is even better than the electronic owner's manual.

Next time you get in your car try to hit that button with your knee. I bet you can't do it.

I don't recall how I did the same but somehow I hit that button too. Never mess with the interior lights intentionally, but they were on. I eventually figured it out, may have ended up reading the manual, I don't recall. What's tricky is they stay on even with the door open, where most cars would typically have the light turn off.

After reading several threads here in the forum about those map lights staying on and reading what caused it, I managed to bump that **** without realizing it while dusting the dash a couple of years ago. I suspect that's how many here pressed that ****.

I do have the manual on my computer, but the forum is quicker. Thanks for your reply.

That's how I've done it a few times.

I have to assume that's what I did too. Cleaning and hit it.

Op could use the quote button so anyone knows who he's responding to.

If you can tolerate a little abuse, the forum beats the manual everytime. Just ask the guy who recently locked himself in the car with a dead battery and had to crawl around his hatch before having to call someone for help. The manual won’t drill the answers into your memory banks like the forum will.

I'd appreciate it if you refrained from bringing me into this conversation. Thank you.

I agree wholeheartedly! Perhaps working the top switch...cleaning the dash...eating a bologna sammich?
