Removed onstar fuse, no speakers
Hello everyone, I replaced my 2010 factory radio with an aftermarket (Sony). I've had a few problems with the onstar. First and foremost, I do not need onstar.
1st problem - The only way to get the radio to play from the speakers was to hit the onstar button to turn it on then hit it again to turn it off. I had to do this each time I started the car.
2nd problem, I started to have severe battery drain. With a multimeter I narrowed it down to the onstar fuse. I removed the fuse, which took care of the battery drain, but now I have no audio from the speakers. Im assuming problem #1 has contributed to the no audio since I effectively shut onstar down.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks
L

Does your new radio have Bluetooth? Does your cell phone work through your speaker and car microphone? As you can see from the picture below the radio and OnStar fuses are separate.

Yes to your answers. Im aware of the different fuses. I think it is the wiring harness as EVRose stated. It would explain alot. I just ordered the one that crutchfield suggested. I will install tomorrow, then check back.
Thanks to everyone that replied.

You need to connect the remote wire (blue/white) coming from your head unit. The remote wire is the amp turn on wire. It sends a signal to your amp telling it to turn on. If you don't have it connected or connected properly your amp won't turn on with your head unit and your speakers won't work. In your case you are bypassing the head unit/remote wire, and using OnStar to send a signal to your amp to turn on.

Glad I could help. The term "remote wire" can be very misleading. Everyone assumes that it has something to do with some kind of remote control but really it is a signal that tells other devices associated with your system, such as an amp or DSP, that your head unit is on and they should turn on also.
