you can't judge a book by its cover. my dad had a '98 Z28. over the years he too had it modified a bit.
except for the aftermarket ram air hood, the looked totally stock. underneath though, the trans (A6), rear end ( ford 9" ),
suspension ( Hotchkiss ), the engine ( on its 3rd LS1 ) were all far from stock.
its best run was 11.92 @ 119mph. car ended up with over 330k miles before I sold it.
handled great too!
surprised quite a few unsuspecting racers.

I would bet the newer GTs and maybe the new SSes? Hard to tell because corvette has the weight advantage. Challengers are piggish so should be fine for those.
Swat came into my house, disrespected my family and told me even they could beat an ls3 c6

Well I don't believe in street racing now a days way to much traffic. When I was a kid growing up in Chicago we only did it at night and on specific roads that we knew were open. With that said I also never considered the Corvette a muscle car. many people do, but it is in my mind a sports car designed for left and right hand turns. if you want to drag race I would look at the factory cars designed for that.

i do agree with your reasoning on street racing. but at the same time, when the situation presents itself ( open road, away from pedestrians,
clean roads ), I have been tempted a few times on the occasional race. the only difference now ( from when I was younger ), is that I think
about the situation first. if their are any outside issues to contend with ( as noted above ), i'll pass on the opportunity.
wait, did someone just say I'm maturing?
maybe, but do I have a few memories to at least carry me through.
I also agree on the corvette not being a muscle car. it can hold its own against muscle cars though.
I saw a lot of decent cars this past sunday at sacramento raceway. most of them would have walked all over my '09,
throw in one corner, then all bets are off.

Why does everyone want to race? Who cares if you are faster or not. The C6 beats everything in the looks dept. If you bought yours to race, you're gonna end up in a ditch. Besides, you never know what is under a hood so why try? If a properly built Honda rolls up on you, it will blow the doors of a stock C6

Just go to the fast list.....compare apples to apples and mods to mods...not many cars out there even beat the base Vette...including today.
The foundation of the c6...3300 pounds or less most other only cars only dream about...you can go fast in a straight line and do a nice hook as well...
My Scatpacks were fast and rode great too....but they are still huge...and heavy.

that's kind of why I don't race my stock '09 at the track. I can see what ever other stock version runs.
so I know what mine should run ( give or take a few 1/10ths ).
if I ever start modifying it, then I'd probably do a few runs. just to verify the improvements.
on the street, it's the 'uinknowns' the will get you ( i.e. rice rockets ).
my theory is that my stock ride is faster / quicker than about 95% of the daily drivers I see.
and that's the great thing, I can easily make this a DD, not too many Ferrari's or lambo's can make that claim ( i do see a fair about of porcshe's though ).
the C6 & C7's are pretty good all around cars.

I love my 2012 centennial edition A6 grandsport...the way it looks and drives. I put on an A&A supercharger and turned the HP up to 575 just to upgrade my ride in this new golden age of high horsepower mustangs, camaros, hellcats, etc. My goal was to have a reliable, no-hassles Daily Driver that can be a beast when you open her up.......my A&A does the job perfectly!!

i agree on the looks dept ( C3, from '73 on ), but at least the 'vette wasn't the only one lacking in looks.
kind of a dead era then. the C4 was a good turning point, laying the ground work for C5 & C6's.

To the OP, just about anything will could potentially beat you out of the hole with a good driver, good traction, and an automatic. Any of those cars with the right tires and good driver will give you an issue until about 80. I don't race from stoplights though, it's stupid and dangerous, and nothing is ever proven. I never start it, but if someone is begging for a beating I'll only do it out on an open stretch of highway somewhere. I just laugh at most everything trying to race in me in traffic, and wave.

WOAAAAA there !! You suggesting that a C-6 looks better than a 63 split ??......

Most ridiculous thing I've read in awhile, why even own a Corvette then? Trade it in for an old classic that will beat everything in the "looks department" and putt putt around town.

maybe I did not clarify my point correctly. the '63 is one of the better looking cars of all time.
but my pull has always been to '68-'72 run. just a matter of timing as those are what i saw growing up.
if i had the money, a '63, or any C2 would be in my stable.
their are only a few that i would pass on ( '73 - '82 ), and take a deep breath here, but I've never been a fan of the first few years ( '53 & '54 ).
currently for the cost of what's our there, for what i had to spend, vs what was available, i could not beat the C6.
my mako will have to wait awhile.
as always though, any 'vette you pick is a winner, as long as your happy with it.
