I'm a DIY guy. If I have an usual noise that I can't diagnose, I usually ignore it. I do keep track of it and in almost all cases it eventually will by action/noise/mechanical problem reveal itself. Yeah, doesn't help much but this has worked for me over the years.

Spaz - don’t know about the whine but your wheels need some attention. Did you have the whine before you wrestled those new tires on the car or did this just start with the new shoes?

I have the same problem with my C5Z.
whine in deceleration only.
clutch in in neutral, same whine
no whine at all under load or coasting

I have a trans brace + solid diff mount

I have a 05 base and mine started to get a whine only when I am a steady speed in the higher gears on the freeway. Been doing it for a few years now and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I have a tick over 145,000 on it now and still runs and handles great. I figure it is just a 'wear' problem.
