only by updating the CD disc you have to the most recent version..............
check your disc for the ID number to compare it to the one at the GM site..............

PS: although mine has OEM navigation, if i do need to use a navigation tool, much easier to just use Google maps on my cellphone

I'm sorry, Sloth. I thought the OP was referring to a 2013. I don't know what the C7 Nav is like, and doubt that the OP cares. But, you are correct, if it has not changed, it certainly would be 14 years. Thank you for the correction.

All good, yeah he referenced in the OP the nav being 6 years old. I too thought the same thing when I got my 2013. I was like "how and the hell can a nav unit in a 2013 be SO BAD." "ooooohhhh cuz its not from 2013!"

LOL! So, I guess the folks spending $105K on a new fully-optioned GS actually are crying... I have read the 2020 Vette has a new Nav. Hopefully, they did not pull one from a Buick that was "new" in 2012...

Yeah your only option is to replace the head unit if you are looking for new technology. Plenty of threads on here about doing that. The latest DVD release was 2016 and there will be no more updates to the DVD NAV system. Keep in mind, you will lose the HUD integration with a new Head Unit, but definitely worth it if you are looking to have better integration with your phone and utilize your phone's built-in NAV capabilities.
I plan on upgrading mine eventually, but really don't use the OEM NAV anyway. I have my phone mounted set up the destination through the phone and have my audio going through the USB cable so I get the audible messages from the directions through the stereo.

The funny thing was... the head unit in the 2014 C7 was leaps and bounds better than the 2013 C6. I imagine with all that "complete" redesign melarky going on, it was too much to ask to do a technology refresh for the 9 model years of the c6. BLAHHHH. Yeah I'm sure the unit in the C8 will be awesome too.

First thing I did for my 2011 (which I got in 2014 ) was replace that embarrassing hunk of junk. Just do it...you wont regret it. The image quality/color of the newer head units really enhance the cockpit of the C6. Be sure to add a back-up camera to while you are at it. Don't waste a bunch of money on units with Nav systems either. As mentioned above, with apple carplay I can display Waze on monitor with touchscreen controls. I rarely use it to find where I am going but is nice to have for police alerts and traffic/route suggestions.

As has been stated, Waze is a much better option with real-time traffic updates if that is important to you (as it is in Houston driving). I never use the factory system since I have found it to be un-intuitive and difficult. In fact, when I have used the factory system I have had to pull out the instructional information manual just to program it. A cell phone with the Waze app is much cheaper than replacing the system.
