When upgrading your Vette's stereo, speakers and amps, do you install new larger gauge speaker wiring, if so, how big do you go? Are the factory wires adequate? Is it much of a hassle running larger wires through the door jambs & doors? Any tips or tricks worth passing along?
Run new wires. I ran 14 gauge speaker wire. It's not that difficult to do. You just have to know there is a cover on the inside of the car where the wires come into the car from the doors. You need to remove or open that cover first from the inside by reaching up under the dash. Also running the wires from the doors into the car using a coat hanger, or something similar, to feed it through the opening is the way to go.
However, I tried a new trick. There are 2 pairs of wires running into the door from the Bose Under Dash Amp. One is for the 10" Bose speaker, the other for the Bose tweeter.
Since my aftermarket crossover is in the door, I only needed one pair of wires coming from the aftermarket amp going to the crossover.. So .... I combined the 2 pairs into one pair. Works fine for me.
