I'm new to the forums and learning about the C7 Corvette. I need a bit of your advice on using one as a daily driver except on snow days. This might be stupid to use a Corvette when a Chevy Spark would do, but I like sports cars and enjoy driving them. I've owned many of them over the last 50 years. I had a 79 L82 coupe back in the 80s and drove it almost every day. I enjoyed it except for the snow performance. I have a friend with an 06 Porsche 911 and he drives his almost everyday. My last sports car, a Honda S2000, I drove about 10k miles a year. It was fun for me.
So why not a Corvette. I read these Forums about folks who reached 100k miles on their C7 already. I understand the high performance summer tires would not work for daily driving, but there are tires out there that would. I ascertain the vehicle is well engineered, reliable, safe and durable. I don't want mine as a garage queen, I want to drive it, running errands and the like.
What are your thoughts and experiences on an everyday Corvette? Thanks...
I know you have a C7, but I daily drive a C6 and wouldn't trade it for anything. I also use summer tires, and have over 20k miles on them with plenty of tread left so I won't be looking for replacements any time soon. I also drag race my daily driver, have driven it across country several times, and show it as well with 7 trophies as proof. There's no reason you can't enjoy every aspect of owning a Corvette.
Mines a fair weather weekend car for the most part and don’t want it subjected to winter salt and sand. My daily and foul weather car is a warmed over 135i with about 380bhp so I still have plenty of power for winter fun.
Thats the way I choose to do it but have nothing negative to say about anyone who chooses to drive their Corvette or any sports car year round even in inclement weather.
I daily my C6 as much as possible spring - fall (detroit metro area). I put Michelin AS3 runflats on it instead of the super sports so that I can drive it when the temp drop into the 40s.
Imo sports cars nowadays are just as reliable as your sedans, if not moreso. Only difference is practicality such as road conditions and hauling capabilities.
I drove my new 07' C6 daily for 4 years, when, I first got it. Living on Long Island, NY with some snow in the winter, it didn't get driven. But, that was a small percentage of the time. From hot to frigid cold temps, it never failed me. For the first three years I drove on the original GoodYear Super Car tires, very carefully when it was cold. I replaced them with Michelin AS tires and never worried about them after that. I retired in 2011 and drive it only in the good months, since I now live in the mountains in upstate NY. Overall, my C6 has been extremely dependable. I have no desire to sell it because I love it still.
