Default C6 audio help

First let me thank you guys for allowing me to join the forum. Recently I bought a new to me C6. Well to be honest the radio and sound quality are horrific to say the least. I’m hoping someone in here can help me figure out the best option for the speakers. I already have a touch screen head unit I plan to install once I select the right speakers. I would also like to see where we can mount a subwoofer without impeding the storage place in the car to much if any.

The car is a convertible and I listen to a fairly wide range of music. (Country, Hip hop, rock and so on.) Also, yes I’m ok with replacing everything including amps. Thanks in advance for the input.

There is an audio section to the forum that you may find helpful.

Also, check out this forum members thread. He built a few subwoofer boxes for convertibles and has sold them to forum members. I believe he has one left.

#1 thing to do is disconnect the speaker in the middle top of the dashboard. It receives a mono signal and muddies the sound. Turning it off clarifies the stereo separation of the other speakers.

isn’t the amp suppose to help clean that up? I’ll pull it off for sure and give it a shot though. almost anything is better than the way it sounds now.

I have this NVX sub & Rockford Fosgate amp in the rear. 1/2 the price of the JL Audio sub enclosure & obviously not as high quality but sounds good to me. I can always replace the sub itself down the road. I can fit 2 carry-on suitcases plus the targa top with room to spare.

Following.

I bought my first C6 in November and I was surprised at just how bad it sounded as well. It is my 4th Corvette - I’ve owned a C4, C5, and a C7 - and this system sounds terrible. My C4 system sounded better than this one!

I replaced the stock headunit with a Kenwood DDX9906XR earlier this year and added front/rear cameras.
Thought I'd see how that sounds, and then decide if a speaker upgrade is worth it.
My conclusion - the upgrade in sound quality is more than good enough, so I'm staying with the stock amp/speakers.
So walk before you run? Try upgrading just the head unit and see if that does it for you. YMMV!

I tried replacing just the head unit first, but it didn't work for me, especially with the top down. So I ended up putting in the JL Stealthboxes that go right behind each seat. I put the amp under the passenger seat floorboard where the factory amp was, and new component speakers in the doors. The center dash speaker is not used. I love the setup, it's got plenty of punch for me, even with the top down. Also love that I keep every inch of trunk space.

It appears I missed the last sentence in the OP's post prior to responding - my bad. Obviously my intent was to offer a suggestion, & the OP could easily ignore it if, but thanks for pointing it out without adding anything useful yourself

Well I did some research and I think for now I’m going to work my way toward a complete system with the hopes I’ll find happiness before getting to deep in to dumping money in it. I’ll start with the head unit and doors for now. Only question I really have is can I do bigger than the 3.5...

That happens all to often in this forum. I’ve had it happen to me as well - one mistake trying to help someone and a miserable person skewered me for it. I had a couple of members call the miserable person out for it and that’s what I’m doing for you!
