I was thinking he meant the shaft....

Aluminum. Can get warm in direct sun but it could be a ball of fire and I’d still love it.

The screw requires a pretty small allen wrench to remove/tighten it, and I'm worried about stripping it out. Does anyone have any other ideas on what I might do to resolve this problem?
Does your shifter vibrate that causes the screw to become loose? I've been having problems with my OEM shifter since the summer, it rattles like crazy and makes this noise whenever I get on it. Usually the noise is always there except it is more noticeable the higher my RPMs go. Talking about shifters, anybody here know any good firm shifters that have a somewhat of a short throw to them and a good feel that will last a while?

The problem isn't the shifter; it's the fact that the screw that holds it in place keeps backing itself out. When the screw is tight the shifter doesn't rattle at all.

Get a screw with a domed washer. The washer acts like a spring to keep the screw from backing out.

Some Vettes have a plastic trim ring that has to clear that screw....it barely makes it over as it is so washer wouldn't work with the later models with the trim ring. That button head probably contributes to us not getting it tight enough...

This thread made me get my black shifter **** out and try Teflon tape...So far quiet as a church mouse. I much prefer the ball over the oem in looks and feel. I'll see how long it stays quiet.
