I had this problem on my (NEW TO ME) last October, and I decided to do a stock OEM part replacement by a local Corvette shop. I was told the replacement unit was a better redesign and that the original has a problem in assemble. Once I had it done the engine sounded and felt 100% better, smoother and the wobble was gone. There's a lot of debate on this subject, but I thought going stock unit was my best choice.
Think you made a very smart decision. If mine ever starts to fail will use OEM parts and match balance.
Maybe you two should start a poll about how many people use an OEM balancer over one of the aftermarket balancers.
I use the OEM balancer since I have never had to replace it. 81,000 miles and still going strong. Not worried about it, or any of the other so-called "dreaded" issues that have never affected my car or owning experience.

A smart decision to replace a known piece of junk with the same piece if junk? Have you ever replaced a balancer on these cars...its not a simple task especially if you have to pin it. Why in the hell would you go thru that hassle and replace junk with junk?
