Default Pull to Eject (latch top reminders)

My friend who also owns a C6 recently joined the flying roof club. I went to flying roof club website but he is out of stock on all of his tags. I saw a video online where someone suggested tying "remove before flight" tags to the latches so they hang down in your field of view and you tuck them in the latch when latching the roof.

I thought these "PULL TO EJECT" were cooler. Got a set of 5 so I can put them on both latches of both my roofs. I have no desire to join the flying roof club

Still blows my mind that people forget to latch their roof down! What else do those people forget to do?

Put their Zoom meeting on mute when they take the kids to the pool.

There but for the grace of God...

It can happen to anyone. ONE MOMENT of distraction is all it takes.

It's a wonder it doesn't happen more often.

Completely disagree...it should not happen to anyone. Distraction, is a human factor, but should not dictate. I work on jets, if people forget to "latch" the canopy, people die. Its just ignorance. You would think folks would feel the same about their vette, or I wonder how the car following them feels with their baby in the car seat that has a roof flying at them because you "forgot".

OK. Glad you are one of the few humans that never makes mistakes. Must feel great to be perfect.

BTW, I never said "forgot" so don't go putting words into my mouth.

No heartburn brother! Just remind me not to drive next to you. Driving is one of those things you can't forget to do sh@t or others will pay at your expense. Forgetting to latch all 3 latches down on your roof and going for a drive is ignorance.

How many lug nuts do you tighten?

It's sister, and I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "ignorance."

Apologies for sure for that Ma'am, but no, I think I am firmly committed to the idea that people that forget to bolt things to their car and then drive, then they fly off, that those people are ignorant.

Do you feel it is acceptable?

You can call me lisa, just like everyone else around here does.

Ignorance is lack of knowledge, not disregard thereof.

Hey Lisa! I actually stand corrected, as you are correct. This is actual legal negligence. Either way...latch your roof.

Negligence, distraction? either way it's a human condition to which we all are too liable, and all strive to avoid.

Sounds like you are ok with negligent maintenance on cars and then them driving on the roads with you. Good advice.

FREE "remove before flight" tag:

Lower your sun visors every time you install your top and don't raise them back up until top is latched. No-brainer but also adding to not drive off if your visors are down....but the world has many no-brainers so felt the need to mention that part too.

Well I am one that has also wonder just how can you put the roof panel back on the car and not latch it. I pull the visors down so they are out of the way when replacing the top. If for some reason I got distracted and walked away when I came back I would see the visors down and the latches still not set.

This is what I did with my C5 coupe. It only makes sense.

I agree, what are people possibly being distracted by? It’s one process, top goes on reach up & latch. Putting the top on and walking away makes no sense. It’d be like me lowering the hard top down on my wife’s Wrangler and walking away before putting in the 8 bolts that secure the top to the vehicle. Driving off with that unbolted would cause serious trouble.

If one’s attention span is less than the 5 seconds needed to latch the top, they probably shouldn’t be driving a motor vehicle. It’s not “an accident” or a mistake, it’s someone being careless knowing they have a vehicle with a removable top, knowing they had the top off & failing to check that it is secure before driving off.

they forget the kids in the back seat or leave the dog with no ventilation when it’s 100 degrees outside

I put my convertible top up and, as I was getting inside to latch it, my phone rang. By the end of the conversation I had forgotten the latch and the top blew up at about 30mph. And if you really want to know what else I forget to do I will be more than happy to respond.
